 Interesting Sushi

What the most interesting sushi that you eat. Something out of the ordinary------a special roll created at your sushi bar, an item not on most menus-------what do you think? To start the ball rolling, I've acquired a taste for monkfish liver. The presentation is nice, with ponzu and scallions. The liver itself is like a fine, delicate pate-----delicious!

    At my favorite place here in Louisville they make something called a Dynamite.. Shaved scallops and mushrooms covered in japanese mayo and spicy sauce then broiled

            surprise, im replying to this topic. its not like i can help it, my blood is part wasabi. Its hard to the most interesting roll i have eaten, since i like the eclectic side of life. but here goes:
            Dragonfly roll- crab,tuna,avacado,wrapped in seaweed and rice then wrapped again in fresh grouper, and baked..than served in a nice light teriyaki sauce. not your normal sushi roll cause its hot..but oh lord is it Drool-worthy.Here are some images fromhttp://www.thaiam2.com/menu_jp.htma place i went to once and will never ever forget in terms of creative sushi. heres some examples.Please check the site out it will blow your mind!!!!!

                  it was so good, i almost hated to eat it because it was so pretty. but the scorpion roll, spicy and all those eggs...mmmmmm soft shell crab inside

                      I tried monkfish liver for the first time not too long ago and liked it as well...and I'm not really a big fan of liver. We had it seared on the outside, still cool on the inside with ponzu sauce and scallions. Not cheap, but we like it enough to order it again sometime.

                      In a sushi bar called Kantaro in San Francisco (now closed, I hear) we had needlefish sushi... a long thin piece of fish with a bit of the silvery skin left on, and the flesh was wound up into two curlicues and placed on the pad of rice. Not real strong flavor, but it wasn't something we'd had before, that's for sure! We had great sea urchin there, too.

                          Sushi. It's been too long since I've had any. Must remedy that soon. Surprisingly, there are several great sushi places in my neck of the woods (Clemson, SC). The Sushi House in Clemson is excellent. And Wasabi in my hometime of Easley SC is also very good. I'm surprised that Wasabi has been able to support itself for over a year in a town like Easley. Our coffee houses both folded in a matter of months.

                          My favorite odd sushi is anything involving BBQ eel. I love it so much that it doesn't seem the slightest bit odd to me.

                            Thanks for the photos of the great sushi. Living where it comes from, it was doubly interesting.

                            I downloaded the pictures and handed them around in a lesson to stimulate discussion. They loved it. We wondered what the dragon's head was carved out of and decided it must be avocado.

                            Though I don't live within shouting distance of any of the places, I often come and drool and take another chopsticks full of rice.

                            Ed - the Monkfish liver if fabulous - they also use it in tabletop cooking here, but it's best wish sushi or on its own.

                                    That looks so cool and sooo good. It's not exactly sushik, but the most interesting sushi/sashimi I've heard of is raw chicken. Dunno if I could stomach Big Bird unplugged ...

                                      One of the sushi places near the University of Oklahoma has a grilled steak sushi roll. Called "South by Southwest" or something similar. There's a restaurant in our area - in the town of Okarche - that is famous for fried chicken, white bread, onions and pickles. That's all they serve. In trying to interest his kids in sushi, a chef friend created the Okarche roll, with fried chicken, onions and pickles.

                                        What is the best sushi house in St. Petersburg? I mean besides Thai Am2 (they got rid of their fabulous lunch buffet), but I was thinking more around downtown. Any suggestions?

                                            I was in Jungle Jim's a couple days ago and had a good time watching a guy prepare and make sushi. Like a public demonstration so you could see it being made. it was so neat to watch.
