A bunch of friends of mine decided that it would be fun to walk most of the length of Manhattan, from the Cloisters down to Battery Park.

A useful byproduct of this is that between the walk itself and before and after parties, we managed to hit a significant number of establishments:

1. H+H Bagels
2. Zabar's
3. Beard Papa Cream Puffs
4. Gray's Papaya
5. Shake Shack (although we gave up on the line)
6. Joe's Pizza
7. Several falafel places in Greenwich Village.
8. One of the Van Leeuwen Ice Cream Trucks

Pre-walk party was Maloney and Porcelli.  Post-walk party was John's of Bleecker.

Being almost 20 miles of walking, we didn't feel guilty about any of the food.

I think you might have missed one.  Forgot which though.

    Did you walk down Broadway?
And how did you get back uptown ?

Hope y'all were wearing good shoes.

Most of us were wearing good shoes, but a few still had blister problems, especially those not used to walking 20 miles.

We only did Broadway from around 110th to 72nd, the rest of the route jogged around a lot to hit sites like Central Park, Grand Central, High Line, etc.

20 miles in the wrong shoes could be a killer.

While visiting Acadia National Park with a lot of hiking, ups and downs, etc. etc. one lady showed up in high heels.  She had figured that Bar Harbor called for heels.

Good Show Kaszeta-----nothing like it in New Hampshire.

kaszeta, Welcome to Roadfood!! and to the Forums!

That's a very ambitious journey.  I can run for about 5-6 miles, then that's it for me.  Usually in Central Park or on the pedestrian path next to the Westside highway.  I've been to most of those places.  Love the cream puffs.  Which Shake Shack did you go to?  The Upper West Side location doesn't have a line as big.

          Well done!

We tried for the Madison Square Park location.  That's worked well for me before... but that was on weekdays, when my buddy Roy at New York Life can look out the window and estimate line length...

We're planning San Francisco for next year's outing (and maybe a repeat of Manhattan this fall with a slightly different route, since two people dropped out of this year's trip due to work obligations)

San Francisco will be tougher because of the hills.  Unless
you figure out a way to just go down them.

Actually, the route we're planning has only one major uphill (Coit Tower).  Otherwise, much of the stuff my friends are interested in can be accomadated by starting at Twin Peaks, going down through Castro and Mission, up to Market, hit the Ferry Building, Coit Tower (a break for the wusses), move along the waterfront, and then do the Bridge.

That sounds like an awesome way to do the sights and food of a city!

Awesome photo set kaszeta--you might want to trade art deco shots with buffetbuster sometime.
