I watched the first couple of minutes. Comedy is always a distortion of truth. That's what makes it funny. This wasn't a distortion. This was a wormhole.

I ate at a Waffle House for the first time last week. It wasn't bad, but it's not something I would feel compelled to do again.

I like Jim Gaffigan too. He is famous for his "Hot Pockets" routine.

Mr. Hoffman, I thought of you when I saw this! hehe Yeah, Gaffigan definitely went off on the Waffle House. You should see his bits about ketchup packets and bacon! Mr. Bad, love the Hot Pockets!

I have mixed feelings about that comedy bit. I'm a Jim Gaffigan fan, and the clip was very funny, but at the same time it was rather unfair to one of my favorite breakfast stops. I've eaten at numerous Waffle Houses in at least a half dozen states and I haven't experienced anything like the stuff that Gaffigan joked about. I wouldn't go to WH for lunch or dinner though, as their burgers are passable at best and their steaks are an offense to cows everywhere.

Ah, I love their burgers. They cook them the way I ask for them, medium rare with chopped grilled onions and hold the garden. Now if they'd just get rid of that disgusting yellow mustard.

My issue with every Waffle House, and IHop for that matter, I have ever been in is flies. They'll have flies buzzing around in the middle of the damn winter. How can that be?

I can't speak to IHop because the last time I was in one -- the only time, for that matter -- was in about 1973, but flies have been a very seldom sight for me in Waffle Houses around the country.

I laughed my arse off on this bit, which was at the end of one of his specials. It was definately true to form based on my last WH visit in PA. And when he talked about the "W" being not lit and calling it awful house, I laughed, because that's why I dubbed the place that name, because the first WH I ever went to was grimy and gross and the "W" wasn't lit. When leaving I said, "it IS the Awful House." Anyways, what also makes the bit funny is his delivery, which the same can be said of his other routines. Whenever my wife and I see a Hotpocket commercial we bust out laughing and say in Gaffigan's high pitched goof voice, "death pocket."

I just started out doing stand-up recently and Gaffigan is one of about 10 comedians I look up to for inspiration. I have a good amount of food humor in my material. I've only been to two WHs, in Florida, the most recent visit was 13 years ago visiting a buddy of mine. We went about 2am after going to a club and it did seem kinda grimy and when I looked at the the menu I thought, "Wow, they don't even care enough to make the PICTURES of the food look appetizing!" Course, I'd had a few drinks in me, so it's entirely possible that was my friend, Jack Daniels, talkin'.

One minute he was standing up and the next he was crawling on all fours. I think Bert's chili was to blame.

billyboy He is one of my favorite "food comedians" and this is a hilarious bit on the Waffle House (from YouTube): Accurately describes every Waffle House I've ever been in.

Obvioulsy, you've not been in any of the ones owned and operated by Judy Thomas. Judy owns the ones in Dayton and most of the rest of Ohio.

She and her brother Fred won't stand for that sort of thing in her stores.

I agree with Mr. Hoffman...We love the Waffle House that we go to every trip to Lancaster PA. No flies...friendly people...very good breakfast(love their sugar free syrup, and purchase several bottles every time)..and superb prices I guess being a franchise, all won't be the same.....but for a great way to start a day...we'll stick with Waffle House
