We Have A Winner

Living alone in St Pete means I eat out a lot.
 
Last week I was recommended to a restaurant I have walked past for 3 years. 
Just wasn't in the right spot, or something.
 
So Mary (my best friend) and I went to MADELEINA COTTAGE RESTAURANT for dinner. 
If you are within a 50 mile radius it is worth the trip.  A radius would have to include 1/3 of it by boat.
The Gulf of Mexico, with no oil, is a few blocks west.  To me it's just 3 miles when the traffic is light.
and the bridge "ain't" up. 
 
The Cottage is a great restaurant for a full European Style Menu.  Plus there is a whole
section dedicated to English Pub food-----and it is excellent.  We got there in time
for the Cocktail Hour (330 to 7) and the Pre-Dinner Specials (5 to 7).  
 
The owner herself happened to greet us. and she is a lovely lady from Yorkshire whoe name
is Diane not Madeleina.   Once the name bit was settled Mary and I both had the bestest Fish
and Chips we have eaten in Florida.  Probably New York too.
 
Knowing a good thing when we eat it, we went back for lunch Sunday-----
the Roast Beef with Yorkshire Pudding (imagine that) and 3 vegetables were just terrific
and Mary loved her Reuben. 
 
I have eaten in almost all the better places around town. and as far as I am concerned
this is the best restaurant for food, service and looks in this part of the best part of Florida.
 
So Come On Down-------- 
"ring me up" when you get here, Mate, and I'll stand ya a pint.  (any gender Mate).

Next time I'am in St. Pete I will definitely try it out - the fish and chips will be my first choice.

real good looking menu but the prices of the steaks are a little stiff in my opinion.

SK Bob ----I never order Steak from a general restaurant---I save my steak
order til I get to a Steak House.  The Roast Beef I had Yesterday was first quality--tender and juicy--- lots to eat other than steak.

Sassy Grits when you get near to St Pete send up a flare and I'll meet you at the bar.  Your brew will be the tall one with the foam on top, mine will be the half empty glass. 

Wow...............great dinner menu.  I guess I would go with the Dover Sole. as you do not find that on many menus.

I would go with monkfish as I've never had that before. God help me, I love reading menus. Am I alone in this semi-fetish?

I think I would go with the Roast Joint of the Day, which comes with the Yorkshire pudding. I've never had that. Or the Dover sole. Ditto. & what are "mushy peas"?

I've never seen "bleu" steak on a menu, mine usually comes overcooked even though I ask for it very rare.  I'd bite the bullet and try that.

Grey-mo ---- the Dover Sole was swimming in Dover a few hours ago. A special plane with a former RAF ace, was standing by to ship it die-wrecked-ly to Madeleina.  Spot on, old girl.

Wintem--reading menus is fun, reading cook books is fun---but it all comes
down to sitting down and placing the order----at that point a decision must be made. Sink or swim, fish or cut bait-------in other words make up your mind, with or without the mustard on your hot dog?

I know 2 black queens---Clubs and Spades and both have cost me a lot of money.
They are never around when I need them.  But a Roast Joint is one of the items I was thinking about until Wintem stole my menu.

Rusty wants a bleu steak-----is that how raw the steak will be ? Or is it served with a bleu cheese dressing ??  The English sure don't know how to spell, they are ruining the English Language.

I know, but sometimes I like to live vicariously through  those that can eat frequently on such delicacies. Not all of us have that luxury. Stadium mustard on my dog please with onions. Otherwise, I don't object to a little ketchup and mayo with a pickle and dragged through the garden as well.

Heck no!  That's why I'm often posting links in threads like this.  I go to look at the menu, and it's easy to copy the URL back to here.

I love menus-----but then I love to eat also---cooking and
shopping are the curses we must endure in order to eat--
but reading a good menu, or a good recipe can almost fill
me up without any calories or cholosterol. 
It's a beautiful thing.
