" IT's TIME FOR A NATIONAL HOT DOG COOKOFF" Wed, 08/11/10 1:22 AM (permalink)
There have been 100's, maybe 1000's of posts on here as to who has the best hot dogs in the USA. There needs to be an Annual National Event to determine who has the best hot dog. We have a Super Bowl, an NCAA Championship in many sports, A World Chili Championship Cookoff, A World BBQ Championship Cookoff---so why not an Annual National Hot Dog Cookoff? Heck, let's make it an International Event and invite the Germans, Poles, Brits, Canadians, Mexicans and any other foreign country to participate in an International Division.
The participants would be all the Manufacturers of Hot Dogs who chose to enter, from the largest to the smallest. It could be set up in different divisions from the big guys like Oscar Meyer, to the medium sized producers, to Regional Producers  and even local producers. There would be a winner in each division and then they would compete for the World Championship. If a Manufacturer would like to have one of their customers represent them with their dogs, The Manufacturer could delegate them to be their official rep. For Example, if Jimmy Buff's Hot Dog Supplier wanted him as their rep they could sponsor him. Only one Customer per Manufacturer allowed. This could be an excellent promotion for manufacturers to hold internal customer cookoffs to see who would represent them.
Qualifications would need to be established to determine the criteria for each division. Hot dogs could be cooked by any method, Propane, Charcoal, Wood, Dirty Water, etc.
It would require an Impartial Major Sponsor like Coke or Pepsi or The Food Network, or a Major TV Network or FritoLay as well as smaller sponsors. It would require a large Venue centrally located in the USA. Participants would pay an entry fee based on size of the company. There could be an Exhibitors Trade Show of Grill Manufacturers, Condiment Suppliers, Bun Bakeries, Tools & Equipment Manufacturers, Cart Manufacturers, Roach Coach People, Pickle Packers, etc.  
There would be a panel of Judges as well as a Peoples Choice Award in each division. 
I can envision something like The Terlingua International Chili Championship, The Great American Barbeque Festival in KC or The Memphis in May Festival for this event.
These are just opening thoughts. Your Input please!
