Gus of Pete's Hotdogs in Birmingham, AL died yesterday. He was found at his home, sitting upright in a chair. The place won't be the same without him.

Oh, that is sad news. I had limited conversations with Gus, but he was a nice man who made terrific hot dogs. Here is a news report. Sounds like the fate of Pete's is up in the air. Hopefully, they will find a way for it to continue.

This former Birminghamian is extremely sad to hear of his passing.

I got to speak briefly with Gus on my last visit to Birmingham last year. What a wonderful, friendly man he was!

More sad news. Steve Gadalatto of Gadalatto's Seafood Market and Restaurant in New Paltz died a few days ago. The family and staff at the business held a celebration of his life with food and drink at the business yesterday afternoon. It was a joyous celebration tinged with nostalgia and regrets at Steve's passing. The business will continue under the direction of Steve's daughter Stacie and his manager Steve Kraus. We wish them all success. Cheers, John
