Sticking their mugs out the your car window? Lip flap massage? what is your take on it?

    It's because they sometimes feel enclosed when in a car, and by sticking their heads out the window they're getting air.
     
    I didn't make that up. A vet told me that. He might have been making it up.

        WHY NOT or IT IS FUN
         
        Dogs sense of smell is much more sensitive then a persons sense of smell. Dogs get a great deal of information about the world through their smellers (but I don't think they know how bad their farts smell, or they do, and they just enjoy the smell)lol That being said, watch your dog while walking, all of a sudden they will veer off with their nose to ground following another scent. Or think about hunting, tracking, or drug/bomb/cadaver sniffing dogs. They are trained to use their sense of smell. 
         
        So the dog nose out the window may just be a way of discovering/enjoying  the world around them
         
        Or, they just like the feel of the wind in their faces..
         
        I do know that when we get with a mile of our property the dogs perk up, it is as if they know we are almost home.

            I heard that it was like CCJPO said. It is to a dog's nose like a kaleidoscope is to our eyes.
