The Green Flash Thu, 04/28/11 12:47 PM (permalink)
Ever seen it, I have a bunch of times, not lately, when I was a kid and as the sun disappeared behind the mountain top that was near our summer home. My father would take us to a nearby overlook to watch for it, one of us kids would always say I SAW IT, I SAW IT, when of course nobody else did.

Yep. We used to watch it pretty regularly when we lived on St. Thomas. It was best seen while sipping Mount Gay or Cruzan with tonic and a wedge of lime either from our gallery (where the limes were picked from the tree in our yard by our kids) or from a place called Galleon House run by friends Marty and Annie Clark.

A few times when I've been out sailing on my boat or on a cruise I thought I've seen it. At the King Harbor Yacht Club in Redondo Beach, underneath the window overlooking the view across the Pacific to Catalina Island and beyond, there is a sign describing the green flash. I believe it's proportional that the ease you see the green flash with is based upon who's pouring drinks at the bar that day and what you're drinking. I think I've seen it several times there. It seems especially noticeable after Bombay Sapphire Martinis. They must make you more sensitive to green.

Sounds more like a hit of Orange Sunshine.
