Roadtrip Maryland to Alaska

My wife and I are planning a roadtrip from our home in Maryland to Alaska and back. I aim to never eat in a national chain restaurant and to find as many local specialties as possible. I am including a tentative itinerary below. I would like advice for places to eat along the way that feature local specialties. I have the Roadfood kms file for Google Earth and intend to make use of that, but it is sparse in several places. Also, the emphasis is on good eating more so than good local specialties, so that's why I'm posting. Any advice would be most welcome. Sunday May 23, drive to Ohio or Indiana Monday May 24 Chicago - visit friends Wednesday May 25 to Saturday May 28 Minneapolis - visit son Arrive in Rapid City, Hill City or Keystone SDak Saturday night May 28 Arrive Hardin MT or Billings or etc June 1 Tour Helena area June 2 Stay at Deer Lodge or Missoula MT June 2 Stay at between Spokane and Colville WA June 3 Cross into BC morning of June 5, go to Boston Bar June 5 - drive +ferry to Victoria June 8 drive + ferry to Vancouver June 12 - 15 drive to Prince Rupert June 15 or 16 ferry to Ketchikan June 18 ferry to Juneau June 20 ferry to Haines June 21 leave Haines June 23 arrive in Anchorage June 26 to Portage Valley June 27 arrive in Seward June 30 early AM to Talkeetna July 1 arrive in Denali July 4 leave Denali July 8 leave Fairbanks to Dawson City to Whitehorse July 12 arrive Banff / Jaspar / Lake Louise late July 18 leave Banff area July 19 Regina, drive to near Sask - Manitoba border July 20 - 23 - Winnepeg and Selkirk July 24 arrive in Minneapolis July 27 - 29 return to Maryland

jimharle, welcome to Roadfood! I've been to many of the places you list but not recently enough to be of any help. All I can say is.... WOW!!! I haven't done a true road trip like that in probably 10 years and love to do something like this again. I hope you get some good advice and then report back on your trip later. Best wishes!
