Overwhelming menus Wed, 05/11/11 3:02 PM (permalink)
I counted 51 possible breakfast items and adding lunch, dinner, and dessert should put the final total well over 100 and maybe even 150 or higher.

And I'm supposed to decide on 1 thing for dinner tonight?

This method is only recommended IF you have both ChiTownDiner AND Cousin Johnny with you!

What a logistical headache! I would hate to be the cook trying to remember all that stuff or the person responsible for keeping all the items in stock!

Imagine what it would take to work this menu:

View the menu as a PDF and prepare to go cross-eyed.

You want to eat in Manhattan, you pay the price.  Ain't sayin' it's right; just the way it is.
I do agree with you though, Shopsin's isn't bashful about their prices.  And we don't know anything about their portion sizes.  One Shopsin sized serving could be enough to feed two people.

I greatly prefer the overwhelming menu because I'm usually presented with an underwhelming one.

Anybody ever noticed the menu at the Cheese Cake Factory?  They list over 200 different foods available.

Paul, when I saw this thread, The Cheesecake Factory was the first place I thought of.  Still, with all of those choices, I have yet to find an entree that I liked.

I agree, BB.On the two occasions I was there, I felt kinda rushed to order as everyone else had been there before, and the entrees I chose didnt do anything for me.

BB, note that I did not say it was great, it was just the huge menu that overwhelmed me.  I will say that I always got a good cocktail there and most of the time, I ate at the bar.

IMO, a Chef Restaurant should not have any more than 12 to 16 entrees on the menu. It's still a good idea to "Eat steak at a steak house" Eat "Seafood at a seafood house" and so on. I don't know who they are kidding with a 200 Item menu, I would rather concentrate on 12 to 16 Entrees and do all of them perfect. I always tell the Chef, in a Chef run kitchen, give me the meal you most enjoy making and are most proud of.........Hasn't failed yet.........pnwc

Oh, I'm with you on that Paul.  The amount of different entrees (and everything else) available is staggering.  It could take a 1/2 hour just to read the menu.

I realize that  but these prices  are  above normal,  with the attitude and the rules.  I notice that each person MUST order n entree.

I'm guessing they spend a lot of time in their "off hours" doing prep work so when someone orders some obscure item on that extensive menu it can be prepared in a reasonable amount of time.

Don't throw away those wwbbd bracelets just yet.  When the 14 year old wants to go to Cheesecake Factory for her birthday, you go to the Cheesecake Factory.  And do your best to smile through a 90 minute wait!

Paul, when I saw this thread, The Cheesecake Factory was the first place I thought of.  Still, with all of those choices, I have yet to find an entree that I liked.

buffetbuster dining at a chain restaurant? Multiple times? Did I read that right?
Don't throw away those wwbbd bracelets just yet.  When the 14 year old wants to go to Cheesecake Factory for her birthday, you go to the Cheesecake Factory.  And do your best to smile through a 90 minute wait!

I totally agree with that.  WJ was really questioning me because I took Mamaw Smith to Cheddar's.  He could not believe that I took her to a chain restaurant but that is where she wanted to go for her 89th birthday.  If she had suggested or insisted McDonalds, I would have taken her there.  I guess most of you would do the same.

Uh huh .... that's almost a believable explanation Cliff.

There is a five-step program for that (NTTAWWT).  Of course the first step to overcoming any addiction (even Cheesecake Factory fetishism) is to admit to the problem. This is nothing to be ashamed of Cliff.  We are here to help.
