They are building a Cheddars restaurant on the IH35 North access road in Selma next to the Hooters and the Holiday Inn Express.Has anyone ever eaten at one? from the menu they seem similar to Chili's and Applebee's,and there is one in San Antonio on the other side of town. Are they any good?

We used to have one, and they were like every other restaurant you find in the parking lot of a mall. Nothing spectacular, nothing horrible. But after ours burned down for the second time, they gave up.

I took Mamaw Smith there for her 89th birthday and she certainly enjoyed it. She got the catfish and it was outstanding. I got the country fried steak with extra gravy and it was outstanding. Some folks may not like it but I thought it was outstanding. Paul E. Smith knoxville, TN

We have a Cheddar's in nearby Clarksville, Indiana. Top of the menu for us is the Catfish. They offer it breaded and 'deep-fried' or grilled. We like the Breaded and deep fried better. The Dinner portion is only a dollar more than the lunch-sized prtion, and is served with two sides for $8.50 They have a side of "Red beans and Rice" which is more like a gumbo...full of shrimp and sausage pieces. I usually get it and some slaw rather than the FF that are one of the 'normal' picks. The dinner portion has EIGHT (8) pieces of Catfish on the plate. I seldom finish it all, but like to take a couple of pieces home for a late-night crackers and fish snack! The Onion Rings are a large order of 'heavy' rings worth the $4.00 and the beverages include several flavored teas that I enjoy as well. We have tried the CFS and some of the Burgers and find them ok...but the Catfish is a real good dinner at a great price. Glad MawMaw Smith agrees with my vote !1

Huh...seems our Cheddars was either a completely different chain, or they've revamped the menu beyond recognition since they left here. Catfish was NEVER an option, nor was anything remotely resembling red beans and rice or gumbo. Ours was almost a carbon copy of Max & Erma's or Chilis or Applebee's or...you know.

I have one by my house and people are milling about outside waiting to get in from the moment the place opens. I can't believe anyplace is that good.

The Cheddar's in our town seems to be always busy. I eat there and am always pleased with what I get. I think what they offer best is cost and value. Their prices are great for families. I always see people leaving with to go boxes as the portions are just very large.

There used to be a Cheddars in Peoria Illinois, nestled between several motels near the Interstate exit. It was similar to Apple-TGIF-Chilibees but we went there because my MIL liked it. It closed a number of years ago and now I see they only have 4 locations in Illinois

I always see people leaving with to go boxes as the portions are just very large. My mother, Mamaw Smith has requested to go there twice. Once on her birthday and on Mothers day. She really enjoyed their catfish and onion rings. The chicken fried steak with gravy is very good. They are really crowded and it seems that folks really like their food and prices. So did I. The portions are huge. They have opened a second location on Clinton Hwy. I understand that they are equally busy. Paul E. Smith knoxville, TN

My wife used to really like the chicken pot pie. The one we used to live close to in Kingsport, TN was always packed. Sunday's after church there was probably an hours wait. The one in nearby Johnson city wasn't nearly as crowded.

I thought I was losing my mind (which is always a distinct possibility, but I was hoping not in this particular instance).

She enjoyed it also but not as much as the chicken pot pie. I really like their catfish and onion rings with their light tempura coating. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

MiamiDon New term: CheddarAppleChiliBees Perhaps you are correct but have you tried the chain? If not, you might be impressed. I believe they have their act together. I personally have been impressed although I have only been there twice when my 89 year old mother insisted that I take her for her 89th birthday and Mothers day. My personal impression was that the food was very tasty and resonable. Paul E. Smith knoxville, TN

Places like Cheddars never build in our current town. Some would say we are lucky. If we had good local places that would be different but all we have is crap chains like KFC and McDonalds on every corner and overpriced local places that get most of their stuff from Sams Club. I would welcome a Cheddars around here.

I like Cheddars - good food, good prices and good service. Their onion rings are good and a great burger. Eveything I have tried so far has been good. I think it is one of the better chain restaurants.

The nearest one to me would be a 100 mile round trip, so I don't think I'll be dining there.

Oh I may give it a try some time. The Texas Roadhouse here has catfish, and we also have a local San Antonio chain,Sea Island Shrimp House,of course they sell other stuff, mainly seafood here. Was just curious about the place, whether it was worth the effort to try it.Chicken fried steak is very common around here. The redbeans and rice sounds fine, would get that over the fries.

We have a Cheddars close by and we vowed it off. Medoicre food at higher than usual prices with lousy service. Same as Applebee's and Chili's.

Perhaps I am fortunate but I have been to the Cheddar's in Maryville, TN two times and both times the food was super. The chicken fried steak was outstanding, the catfish was even better and the tempura fried onion rings was outstanding. I cannot complain about their service, food or atmosphere. Paul E.
