              Maybe the Mexican bologna contains sugar instead of HFCS?

                Well, the article said the bologna was made of pork (which might contaminate U.S. pork).  U.S. bologna many times is made of a wide variety of meats, "variety meats" and "meat products".  Maybe that is the difference.

                    "It's illegal to bring the bologna across the border because it's made of pork and has the potential to introduce foreign animal diseases into the U.S. pork industry."
                    (Off the record: To me, it sounds like the U.S. pork industry doesn't want the competition.)

                      Let me see if I've got this figured out correctly.
                      1. Since the Mexican Bologna has already been processed and is in a casing of some sort and
                      2. The only way Mexican Bologna can contaminate USA Pork is if it's ingested by American Hogs OR
                      3. American Hogs are impregnated by using Mexican Bologna, which according to the laws of reproductive biology is impossible, Therefore;
                      4. The contamination of America's Hog Population is next to impossible, Therefore:
                      5.  That leads us to the conclusion that the reason the border agents confiscated the Mexican Bologna was to make their sandwiches for lunch! AND
                      6. The US makers of Bologna are trying to eliminate competition.
                      7. FOOTNOTE: I totally support the efforts of the Border Agents and the Border Patrol. Those of you who don't live day to day with the issues of Illegal CRIMINAL border problems, (You do but may not recognize it) just don't understand the severity of the problem.

                          Without getting political, I am VERY aware of the criminal, illegal situation. We had a Milwaukee cop recently busted for something-he was an illegal. Scares me that if bologna can get thru, than we are in huge trouble.

                            I guess bologna brought into New Mexico from Mexico isn't the only meat being brought into the U.S. (and confiscated by the authorities), though this time it wasn't being smuggled:

                            90 pounds of sheep meat (from Ethiopia) seized at Dulles (airport):
