I can't seem to get a full night's worth.

I wake up around 4AM and toss and turn until some time around 6 - 7AM when I then fall asleep.

Woke up this morning at 9:30AM!  I wasted most of my Roadfood day!

Just ranting.

Boy, do I know about waking at 4 a.m. But I can't help wondering why it is that when I HAVE to get up at that time to go fishing or hunting I have to use an alarm clock.

I have the same, yet opposite problem. It's a rare day that I fall asleep before 4am, regardless of when I have to get up. Although if left to my own devices, I don't wake up until 11am or noon, so I guess I do get enough sleep as long as work or other commitments don't drag me kicking and screaming from bed earlier than that.

Now that I am retired officially, I usually and awake by 3-4AM.  I find something to do with the computer and take about 2-3 more naps during the day.  I sorta find it very pleasant.

I can't nap. That is, if I do nap during the day I can never get to sleep that night.

I can't get out of bed if I'm awake.  I just toss and turn with my brain going a mile a minute with some song in my head playing in the background.

                      What's this $300 bit---you charged me $450.
And the other bed is in the other room, going from one to the other I walked into the wall--changing beds in the middle of the night, in the dark, is dangerous.

Stick with the hot dogs and soup Chewy.

LOL, Ancient One,...... it does work, trying to fall back asleep in conditions you know are going to keep you awake doesn't work, mainly because you feel it won't, the small change works miracles..snore!

How are we gonna know if we're sleeping or if we're dead?  I'm guessing it's not going to matter since The Rapture is tomorrow.....

                                  Mar52,
All joking aside, you might want to go to a specialist who deals in sleep disorders. Spend a night in a sleep lab and get checked out. I did and they discovered I have Sleep Apnea. It can effect your health big time. I now use a CPAP Machine, (Continuous Positive Air Pressure) at night and get a quality nights sleep. Recent studies have shown the devastating effects of not getting a good nights sleep. Not something to blow off lightly.
Common misconception----Drinking booze helps you sleep. The exact opposite is true. Alcohol consumption actually disrupts sleep.

Thanks.  My doctor prescribed Ambien a few years ago.  When I was working I would take it only on Saturday nights so that I could sleep in Sunday mornings and stock pile them.

It used to work.  Now I find if I take one, the next night I'm wide awake and can't fall asleep.

Ambien can have some nasty side effects...try St. John's Wort

Has anyone ever been to a sleep clinic and NOT been diagnosed with sleep apnea? I know several people who have gone and every one of the were prescribed the sleeping machines. Do you suppose every person alive has sleep apnea?

Have you been to a Sleep Lab? Do you have Sleep Apnea? "Several People" does not constitute a valid sample. First, you need to be referred to a sleep lab by a Doctor. Your "People" probably told their Dr their symptoms and the Dr sent them. People don't go to Sleep Labs just for the Hell of it.
Do you know the symptoms of Sleep Apnea? Probably not. So here they are:
                                            http://www.webmd.com/sleep-disorders/tc/sleep-apnea-symptoms
Anyone who has any of these symptoms should see a Doctor for evaluation. Sleep Apnea is nothing to fool with. It can lead to a shorter life, as in DEATH!
What Are the Effects of Sleep Apnea?
If left untreated, sleep apnea can result in a growing number of health problems including:
                                            • High blood pressure
                                            • Stroke
                                            • Heart failure, irregular heart beats, and heart attacks
                                            • Diabetes
                                            • Depression
                                            • Worsening of ADHD
In addition, untreated sleep apnea may be responsible for poor performance in everyday activities, such as at work and school, motor vehicle crashes, as well as academic underachievement in children and adolescents.

Foodbme, sorry if I pushed a hot button. I know it is serious, and the people I know who are using the machines have all benefitted greatly. I was trying to be light, but I suppose it was in bad taste, Sorry.

Thank you for the clarification and apology. I appreciate you doing that.
It is a hot button with me because I've been there, realize the problems and the solutions are there. I know there are so many people that have it and don't know what it is. Like so many other diseases, it's a silent killer. Sometimes not so silent when someone falls asleep behind the wheel due to lack of sleep and runs into someone possibly killing them.
If we put the same emphasis on Sleep Apnea as we do Drunk Driving we could save a lot of lives.

I'm with you Foodbme.  I resisted going to get a study for years even though I knew for sure that I had sleep apnea.  When I finally went, the tech got so nervous that he just hooked me up to a CPAP in the middle of the night.  My O2 sat was apparently in the mid 70s at that point.  When the results of the test came back I found out I was waking up 142 times an hour.  In other words, I never slept more than a few seconds at a time.  And I could fall asleep anywhere anytime in a matter of moments.   Places including work, movies, and yes even a time or two at a red light.

I'll never forget the day that I brought home my CPAP.  I told my wife I was going to test it out.  5 hours later she came in and asked if we were going to eat dinner that night.  I've only gone one or two nights without it since then and that was becasue the power was out or I had such a bad cold there was no breathing through the nose.   I know it saved my life.

Agree.  And make sure to LISTEN to your partner.  I kept assuring my wife I was fine until she finally started writing down how many seconds I was going without breathing and showed it to me.  That finally opened my eyes to how serious this is.
