Trip to Cincinnati area (Covington Ky.) in late July for Reds vs. Braves

Hey All,
 
My Brother and I will be headed to The Cincinnati to see the Reds play the Braves in late July. We will be taking I-75 to Covington Ky, which is where we will be staying. Where are some good places to eat both on the way up and in the Covington, Cincinnati area. Thanks in advance.

One thing you need to do is try Cincinnati chili. You have to understand a few things first. It's not really chili as you know it. I liken it more to the meat component of pastichio.
 
It's served over spaghetti and topped with cheese (3 way) or on pups and topped with cheese (and onion and mustard if you want)

As well here are a couple of great places to try it. Camp Washington and Blue Ash will also allow you to try a couple other Cinci favourites. Double decker sandwiches and goetta.

I can't help you with Cincy itself, but there are some good stops on the first half of your drive.  One that comes to mind is Bradley's BBQ in Sweetwater TN (I-75 exit 60).  It's a reasonably new place, and they don't serve stew, but I really liked their chopped pork.
 
Just north of Chattanooga, in Ooltewah (around mile marker 9 or so), there's Couch's BBQ, which smokes uncured hams and serves the thin sliced pork on a toasted bun with lettuce, tomato and really hot, creamy yellow slaw.
 
In Knoxville, Triple-D favorite Pizza Palace is my wife's favorite pie, but I'm even more taken with their meat sauce and onion rings.  I think I might prefer the pizza at downtown's Tomato Head even more.  Either is a little bit of a detour from I-75.  You could also get a steamed sandwich from Nixon's Deli or Gus's.

I really enjoy the Greyhound Tavern, on Dixie Highway in Fort Mitchell.
 
Excellent "Greyhound Browns" and regular Hot Browns, good onion rings, and, I am told, good fried chicken, also (although I've never had the fried chicken).

In Cincinnati, you must find goetta

Since you are staying in Covington, you should go to MainStrasse Village http://www.mainstrasse.org/. Lots of good restaurants, but I recommend stopping in the Strasse Haus for their sauerkraut balls. They are awesome!!

Hofbrauhaus Newport was the first American outpost for the German brewer and is modeled after their bier garden in Germany.  Good eats and German style beer made in-house makes for a great pre or post-game meal.
