I finally bought some Nathans dogs, and while they were good, I still think Hebrew National is a better product.

These excerpts say it all: Ball Park Beef Hot Dog: Every single tester waxed wacky over the satisfying juice jolt of this beefy stadium staple. The flavor may not be a grand slam, but it's a solid base hit. 8. BALL PARK FRANKS (Beef, Pork & Turkey) While their beef Ball Park brethren fared well, this meat blend was even more perfectly pitched. Panelists felt it scored major points for thickness and its rich, balanced blend of meaty elements, calling the taste 'exactly right' and 'explosive.' Home run.3. BALL PARK ANGUS BEEF FRANKS 'Flavorgasm!' exclaimed one panelist, and another declared this grand slam frank a 'most delectable weenie.' The upgrade in beef lofts this 'beefy, juicy, yummy' dog to a league of its own.

A little known secret: The best tasting hot dog out there is Thumann's (brand) in the natural casing. Not overly salty with a crisp snap to the bite. Anyone else with the same opinion?

We buy Hebrew National pretty often. They are a bit pricey but ROZ will eat nothing but beef hot dogs and she certainly enjoys those on the grill with a bit of char. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

Twinwillow, Those are the hot dogs I buy the most. I also like Sabrett natural casing or Nathan's natural casing but I always go back to Thuman's.

I am hoping I can find Thumans in this neck of the woods. I have read many positive reviews here...

We did a blind taste test of Nathan's and HN a few years back. Nathan's won unanimously. This was only between those two and based on readily available supermarket dogs. DT

@ MiamiDon.... (I couldn't get a quote to un-format the bullet list)... The Ball Parks are pretty rough. But the Ball Park Angus Beef dog isn't all that bad, it's a decent hot dog for the price and availability. A nice effort for a national brand, IMO.

Most supermarkets carry them and they are well worth the extra dollar or two per pack over those crappy brands that the Kitchen Daily people seem to like best.

Hi Mosca, Yeah, I was just indicating that the raves over some pretty mediocre (at best!) hot dogs immediately made me question the whole thing.

I can get Sabrett in the natural casing easy enough in Dallas but I've not seen Nathan's in the natural casing. Just, skinless. @ken8038: There is only one store in all of Dallas that sells Thumann's. Hirsch's Meat Market in Plano.

Hi Mosca, Yeah, I was just indicating that the raves over some pretty mediocre (at best!) hot dogs immediately made me question the whole thing. Oh, true that. IMO, the whole concept of ranking any food is flawed. Mrs Mosca loves the Nathans, the Sabretts, the Hebrew Nationals, AND the Ball Parks. My nephew hates the Ball Parks and the Nathans, but loves Thumann's and Hoffman's. There's no accounting for taste.

My vote goes to a great regional dog from Boston called Pearl. Their 4 oz dog is outstanding and available in most deli depts as well as BJ's They're always a hit at family cookouts Grilled dog and subroll, toppings are a personal choice but I like mine loaded
