Have you ever eaten "Stuff"?

There's actually a recipe for "Stuff". It comes from an old church cookbook called "Quaker Stuffings From Richland, Iowa". Here's the recipe: "STUFF" Ingredients 1 1/2 #'s Hamburger 2 Potatoes, Grated 3 Carrots, Grated 4 Sticks of Celery, finely chopped 1 Onion, Chopped Fine 1 Red Pepper, Cut into Fine Strips 1 Can Cream of Chicken Soup Directions Brown hamburger in a skillet Add everything else S & P to taste Cover AND NOW THE BEST PART "When Lid gets hot, turn to low heat and cook for 45 minutes." Reminds me of my mother who always said, "I just cook it until it's done" When the family asks what's for dinner, you just say, "Oh, I just whipped up some "STUFF"! I'll bet George Carlin would have liked some "Stuff".

When my kids were in elementary school I was on a comittee to help publish a cook book. We collected recipes from families and local resteraunts. I recall one family's recipe being called "The Stuff". It was browned ground beef, acan of diced tomatoes and american cheese all in one pot. I guess some families come up with dishes they just can't name. Or don't want to!

Some times you just have to make do with what's at hand. Growing up I remember us running out of money before we ran out of month, so yeah, we ate stuff.

Cosmos Any stuff with a can of cream-o-chicken soup in it is not stuff I eat.. Here's the healthier version: Modern Version 8 oz mushrooms, ½ shallot or 2 cloves of garlic, 2 TBSP butter, ½ C white Wine, 11/2 # ground turkey, Olive oil, 1 C chicken broth + the original veggies To me, it just doesn't sound as good as the Original, but hey, I live in the Old World.

Cosmos Any stuff with a can of cream-o-chicken soup in it is not stuff I eat.. Easy solution. Just sashay over to the celery thread here, to find the recipe for cream of celery soup (made from scratch). Substitute the homemade cream of celery soup for the goo-in-a-can, and you're ready to go. The spam-prevention filter is keeping me from posting the link (even though it’s just to another page on this site), so just navigate to: Side dishes forum >>Side Orders >> Celery, The Nation's Most Underestimated Side Dish >> PAGE 5
