In a couple of weeks, I'm going to New York to ride an old subway train to Rockaway. I will have time for lunch while I am there. Any suggestions?

I have not been there, but I have heard very good things about Rockaway Taco.

This sounds great! Unless a better suggestion turns up, we'll be off to check out Rockaway Taco and the rest of the Rockaway food stands. We'll let you know what we find.

Sorry for going off topic but, I haven't been there for so many years. I was living in Far Rockaway in 1955 when the late, great Brooklyn Dodgers beat the Yanks in the World Series, though.

When you are heading to Rockaway get off at Beach 98 Street, walk towards the ocean on Beach 98 street and when you get to the boardwalk on your Left is the consession stand with among others you'll find Rockaway Tacos.  I'm afraid that there is not much else in the form of "Road Food"

They did a great article in The New York Times a couple of weeks ago about Rockaway's food scene - go to their website and search under Rockaway.

I couldn't get off the train at Beach 98th Street as MEATBALL suggested because my 1930s train ran express from Court Street all the way to Rockaway Park. After enjoying the beach at Jacon Riis Park, we walked back to 98th Street and found Rockaway Taco. There was a long line, but it seemed to be moving quickly, so we waited. I never had a fish taco, so that's what I ordered. I don't know why, but I expected a taco with little flakey pieces of fish in it. Instead, there was a fair sized battered and fried piece of fish, which was about as tasty as one of those frozen fish sticks. I doubt I would order a fish taco again anywhere. The meal was redeemed though by a bean, plaintain and cheese quesadilla, which was excellent!
Let me also give a shout-out to the Trini-Paki Boys food cart in Midtown, where I had a fine lunch the day before my trip to Rockaway.
