Football Food Sun, 09/25/11 12:25 PM (permalink)
Football and food are 2 of my favorite things.  My team is the NYGiants.  For each game I like to eat food based on the schedule.  I try to eat food that the opponent's city/state is known for.  Today the Giants play the Eagles so I am making cheesesteaks.  I bought some top round steak sliced thin, I am frying up some onions, using a loaf of italian bread for the roll, and melting some port wine cheese on top.  Onion rings on the side with a homemade bbq sauce.

Does anyone else do something similar or have a tradition of what they eat for games?

I always have a pot of chili, chicken soup, bean soup or some such thing on the stove every Sunday. We usually have drop in guests, so that kinda solves the problem of serving several people. And then I have finger food available-today I made cocktail weiners in BBQ sauce, I have chips and dip, and a cheese platter with crackers. That also frees me up for a nap( if we have no guests) and Bob can serve himself as he wishes throughout the day.

I only put on the food spread for special games like bowl games and the BCS Championship, divisional playoffs and Super Bowl.
Being in AZ, most of the good games come on early in the day. We stay on Standard Time when it's DST on the East Coast, so we're 3 hours behind the East Coast. Our game time meals tend to be Breakfasts! The NFL starts at 10 AM our time, College games even sooner. To catch Lee Corso, the TV needs to be on at 7AM!
As an aside, I'd love to see a College Football show with Lee Corso and Dr. Lou together with Beano Cook as Moderator!
"The Lee, Lou & Beano Show-Football Upside Down" THAT would be a hoot!

It's a great idea, though I don't know anyone who does it.  I would think when the Saints play, there would lots of good food choices, one-pot dishes to feed a crowd like red beans, jambalaya, or gumbo.

During the Sugar Bowl a few years ago, the dessert station at Harrah's casino buffet decorated gingerbread bread men in icing colors of the opposing teams.

I never eat while watching football -- unless I'm at the game. And then it's just a hot dog or two at halftime.
