New Times Magazine's "Best of Phoenix 2011" Lists Mon, 10/3/11 3:43 AM (permalink)
New Times Magazine is a very popular Hip Magazine with a coveted "Best Of" list in Phoenix.
They cover everything from Hookahs to Hot Dogs!
Here's some of this year's Roadfood related places as selected by the food writers of New Times:
Best Food Truck:
Short Leash Hot Dogs.
This popular Dog Wagon is all over town but especially seen at the Downtown Phoenix Public Market on Fridays, along wth a bevy of other food trucks.
Best Soul Food:
Lo-Lo's Chicken & Waffles
Needs no intro to Roadfooder's. Been covered on here many times.
Best Hot Dog:
Maui Dog
Hot Dogs with "Island" condiments like coconut and pineapple on Hawaiian Rolls. I haven't been there yet but will try it. (The Readers Choice was the Southwest branch of Ted's Hot Dogs from Buffalo NY located in Tempe)
Maui also sells a Spam Slider!
Best Fish & Chips:
Taylor's Chowder House
Simple storefront with simple but good Fish. Been there since 1985. That's a lifetime in Phoenix Years.
Best Wings:
La Grande Orange Grocery
Baked, not fried, big and meaty wings with a peppery sauce with zing.
Best Fried Chicken
Mrs. Whites Golden Rule Cafe
A phoenix institution that's been covered at length on RF. The Mac & Cheese should win an award too!
Best Donuts;
LaMar's Donuts & Coffee
Humongous Donuts that put Dunkin & Krispy Kreme to shame. Bismarcks, Maple Bars, Cinnamon Buns and Fritters too
Best Sonoran Hot Dog:
Nogales Hot Dogs
1945 E. Indian School Rd - Phx (SW corner of 20th st & Indian School)
no web site
A food truck that shows up around 6PM and is there until the Wee Hours. .Mesquite smoked, bacon wrapped, goodness with your choice of south of the border toppings. On everyone's Best of list.
Best Tortillas:
Sets the standard for Tortillas and has excellent Sonoran Food as well. All the cops and firemen eat there at the original location. Been featured on RF.
