Do you have any likes or dislikes that you picked up from your grandparents?
I spent more time around my maternal grandmother growing up. From her I learned to enjoy sitting on the porch swing on hot summer evenings. And to put dill pickle slices on sloppy joe's. Also, lemon cake with chocolate frosting.
From my paternal grandmother I learned to hate the smell of the lipstick she wore! As you can probably tell, she wasn't much into being a grandmother, or a nice person for that matter!

All my Grandparents died before I knew them so I missed that experience. I hear other people tell stories about their Grandparents. I don't have any stories to tell.
Maybe that's why I worked so hard at being a good parent and grandparent. I want my kids and grandkids to have great memories of me so they can tell their kids and grandkids how much they liked being around me and the fun stuff we did together and the life lessons they learned from me.

      Foodbme, that's beautiful.

I only had/knew one set of grandparents.

My grandfather had a love of food that I acquired both in eating and in cooking.

Everyone always said that my grandmother was the nicest person they've known.  I try to be like her.  However, somewhere some sarcastic DNA took ahold of me.

I learned from my grandfather to put cider vinegar on spinach (from frozen). My brother still has the antique crystal carafe that sat on my grandparent's counter (and on the table for Sunday dinner) that holds the vinegar.
I learned to like Jim Beam from the bottle my grandmother would hide in the bathroom closet.

A little bit of vinegar(white or cider) and hard-boiled egg slices always go on cooked spinach at serving time!
