Kielbasa

I am looking for an authentic kielbasa sausage my husband remanded from childhood. His great aunt gave me the brand name Wascieleski. She said she got it in New Castle PA but may be found at Giant Eagle. Anyone ever heard of it or where to get it?

I frequent 3 different Giant Eagle markets in Beaver County, PA and have never seen that brand name.  The only authentic kielbasa in this part of Western PA is at Kemp's Market in New Brighton.  They make their own and it is very good.

There is a Wasilewskis Market (Olde Recipe Foods, Inc.) in New Castle, PA, at 1701 Jefferson St. that makes kielbasa.:

You might want to give Weiland's in North Columbus a call. I've had their fresh-made kielbasa and it's pretty darned good.

The best I've ever had came from Walt's Market in Old Saybrook, Connecticut, but that'd be a long drive from Marysville.

I spent my high-school and college years (1962-69) in New Wilmington and, as I have family still there, have re-visited the area several times a year since.  It has been so sad to see this once thriving industrial town of 60,000 lose more than half its population and now have as its primary "industry" health and geriatric services.  It's great to see at least one of the local businesses still thriving.

Not necessarily. I just got back from Giant Eagle. The store manager told me that Wasilewskis is not on their purveyor list, thus no orders are possible.

Columbus North Side Market.  Several vendors have it fresh.

My experience with supermarkets and small meat producers in  Pennsylvania is that the producer is able to get his product into the local supermarket meat departments. They probably use DSD (direct store delivery). Unfortunately, Giant Eagle's reach is so far today that most of the chain's stores may not carry a particular producer's product. Some of the good local producers on the eastern side of the state are Kunzler, John F. Martin, and Leidy's.

It's possible that eating too much fat laden Kielbasa is what killed off half the population in New Wilmington and put the other half in need of health & geriatic services?????

In fact, New Wilmington hasn't lost any population due to the Calvinist inclinations of its hardy denizens.  Hell, the town is still DRY!  It still has an active chapter of the WCTU.  You have to drive 10 miles just to buy a beer.  Gilliland's Market still makes its own sausages, including Kielbassa and sells that Western PA classic, chipped (chopped) ham.  (The last time I bought that at our local WalMart here in Dallas the Salvation Army ringer tried to give ME money!)
 
Now you have me started -- how I wish I had some Isaly's Barbecue Sauce, hamburger relish, and Lemon Blennd ...
