It was so good Agnes!

Pizza Rustica from Livoti's in Matawan. Many people here have it for Thanksgiving or Christmas when the entire family can't be together for Easter. I might even snap the ears off some chocolate Christmas bunnies.

Natale con i tuoi...Pasqua con chi vuoi.

Christmas with family...Easter with...McDonald's.

Gotta do a test run...like the balloons before the parade.

Delicious cold (first pic) or warm...

Loooong day trip today with Wife  & my sister to the Wildwoods etc for birding and eating. The A & LP Food Center in North Wildwood has been on my to-do list for years, finally got there for lunch.

There's a reason why a place stays in business since 1953.  Best cheeseteak in years, and at 18 inches and loaded, surely the biggest. Split 3 ways, it was more than enough. Huge side of fries was excellent too. Fed us nicely for 25 bucks including 3 20 0z. bottled sodas.

Long walk on the virtually deserted Wildwood Boardwalk afterward took care of our need to walk it off.

              L2B...

Thank you for posting the chicken recipe (it was delicious)...& encouraging me to bake the biscuits. The tempting little biscuits will keep me moving ---->

              Ken...

I haven't had a traditional cheesesteak in quite some time. A & LP sounds like a great place for a cheesesteak!

It's a lovely time of the year for a walk on the Boardwalk. It's both peaceful & invigorating.

Was in SF today and went to the Ferry Bldg for lunch.  At Boccalone (Tasty Salted
Pig Parts) I got a delicious salame sandwich with greens and tomato spread.

A few blocks away at Fog City News, there are approximately 200 different kinds of high end chocolate items.  I got a bar made "locally" in Scotts Valley, CA, which is near Santa Cruz and was home to Alfred Hitchcock back in the day.  http://www.fogcitynews.com/chocolate.html

the pickle and this time added some veggie chips.

I had some wonderful Provimi veal liver and onions for lunch today. The liver was sauteed with bacon and caramelized onions and is served with beautiful mashed potatoes and a balsamic veal sauce. They also serve broccoli and carrots with it, but vegetables are so close to raw as to be inedible, as far as I'm concerned.

                                    L2B...

"Sicilian" is a popular style of pizza in the NYC area that's sorta an ode to NYC adapted version of the Sicilian Sfincione. There can be some variations from neighborhood to neighborhood (thicker/ thinner mozzarella or Romano cheese under/over sauce) ....and if it's found in a pizza parlor or bakery.

This "Sicilian" is pressed (not rolled) on a well-oiled sheet pan. Nice crispy crust... nice light pillowy center (with just the slightest bit of chew). Rectangular slices ...much thicker than a standard slice of pizza.

The last few years the somewhat similar "Grandma or Nonna" pies have made it on to the radar. I'll stick with the traditional "Sicilian" variety that was so popular when I was young...we had to clarify what type of slice we wanted when ordering.

CC - I will look for him tomorrow, I am getting ready and packing for the trip home.  I want to hit Gabby's & Ms Geraldine's tomorrow before heading north, so the good professor will be a good addition.

I fear I wasted too much time in other pursuits and the MS slugburgers will have to wait until the next trip back down here.

My 3 BIG days did me in, it took too long o recover from over eating on those days.  I TRIED to do them in moderation, but when there is pie involed everything goes out the window.

lleechef and I went to Phillip's Coney Island in Columbus for lunch today. She had a bowl of their wonderful bean soup and a coney without onions or cheese. I had a bowl of the bean soup and two coneys, with the onions and the cheese. It was unsweetened ice tea for both of us. Wonderful! We try to get there once a month. The place has only been in business for 101 years. Oh, and it's been run by the same family all that time.

Today my wife and I took a quick trip up the Parkway to do a little food shopping in the old heavily Italian and Polish towns of Garfield and Lodi  NJ. Our first stop was Vitamia's Ravioli Store, which some NJ sources say has the best Ravioli in New Jersey.

                                                      http://www.pastaboy.com/

Well, the Ravioli, which we had for dinner, was excellent. Best in State? Possibly, but we have pretty dam good Ravioli right here in Scotch Plains at Florence Ravioli.

It was the OTHER STUFF that we wound up buying and taking home for lunch for today and tomorrow that we are raving about. All kinds of Italian Prepared goodies on the counters and displayed in the glass cases in this old-school shop.

For lunch today we each had a rice ball (excellent) and something neither of us had ever seen before, a Sicilian Onion Pie. Basically it's a huge slice of Sicilian Pizza (about 2x the size of a normal sicilian slice and 4x the weight) topped with a baked breadcrumb and cooked onion mixture. Just fantastic.

Tomorrow's lunch: an individual bakery pizza, and a slice of sausage bread.

We bought so much food on impulse that we skipped our 2nd stop, the Piast Meats Polish Castle on Passaic Street, and instead headed home for Lunch Italian Style.

After today and tomorrow, and with Thanksgiving coming up, I'm already about 3 pounds in the hole with no letup in sight. Skipping the Polish Store is what passes for a diet this time of year.

Benanti's is right off Broadway @ 22nd St. Mi Quisqueya is on Broadway between 16th-17th Street. It's a great place! Everything is always very fresh......lively colors up & down the long line of selections...delicious & so inexpensive. I believe that big serving was $6.50.

                                                            L2B...

Grandma pizza is a type of pizza that started on Long Island years ago & has been traveling around the NYC area. Mileage varies on what you can expect when ordering & the description for it.

It's often described as a thinner version of Sicilian ( it can go so far as having a cracker crust) "fresh & tangy" chunky sauce...heavy on the garlic (no thank you) ...and some of the latest NYC versions burn the sh"t out of the bottom of the crust.

I believe the original version going back 30 years ago probably was the same thing many a Grandma would do...make a simple & delicious pizza @ home using fresh from the garden tomatoes. That's very seasonal & can't be on a menu so many peeps frame Grandma in all sorts of ways that I doubt she'd appreciate.

Here's the bottom of a Grandma slice from Artichoke Basille's...

Many people love it. I'm not many people.
