Need for a Website that is "food search" based

I noticed there were many foodies out there, and wondered how you guys find your food. Do you think there is a need for a website to search for restaurant food?

Try Chowhound.com.  They have regional forum boards, very active, so you can find out about specific cities, specialties, etc., right where you live or even for places you mean to visit.

This Roadfood.com board is search selective and thematic toward its stated purpose of road food. If you want to find reviews of every restaurant in an area then Google the city and add the word restaurants in your search or use Yelp.
 
If you want knowledgeable discussion this Roadfood.com is the board. If you want local discussion, Chowhound breaks down its boards to cities and regions and different players in each seem to populate them. They are as good as the input. Some cities are better than others for that on Chowhound. Chicago is unique in that it has the LTHForum.com which is excellent.

I think that Urbanspoon's a good deal more useful than either Yelp or Chow.

From the context I have seen it used in the past, it seems to mean someone who really likes food.  ...  But, who doesn't?  It seems that could be almost everyone.

I agree since the food discussed here is mostly to my liking. I'm more independent about it when pursuing breaded pork tenderloin sandwiches and wood-fired Neapolitan style pizzas around the country.

I always took foodie to mean someone who:
 
Considers eating and food a hobby. (that's not almost everyone, really. Most people just eat and don't think about it much.)
 
And who acts sort of like an amateur restaurant and recipe critic.  (Not just food bloggers but anyone who has strong opinions about and some knowledge about food.)

While the recommendations here at Roadfood are worth many more times the weight of Yelpers' and the like, there isn't a guarantee that our knowledge base can cover all the possibilities.  For example, my query a few weeks ago about good roadfood in Augusta GA was viewed more than 100 times, but nobody offered an answer.  Despite being Georgia's second largest city, Augusta simply doesn't seem to be well-known.  (Nor, perhaps, should it.  From what I have glimpsed on three visits, it's enough of a dump to let Macon look like the city of The Jetsons...)
 
FWIW, Urbanspoon is certainly flawed, and, particularly in the southeast where it is not used as much, full of obsolete information, but my experience over the last year or so is that it's a very useful starting point, and the service's highlighting of blogs over the more quick-from-the-hip angry-customer reviews gives diners quick access to more thought-out opinions, information and photos, making it much more useful than Yelp or Chowhound.  I think the service is improving all the time, thanks to users making modifications and corrections to the listings, and strongly recommend it.
 
Just, you know, phone the restaurant that catches your eye first before driving to it.  It's very possible that nobody's sent a "closed" notice along.

My ranking of the food review sites:
 
RoadFood has the best quality reviews (but thin coverage - the community feel here and some regulars make reviews more "relatable")
 
Urbanspoon next best (massive coverage, generally reliable, but as stated harbors a lot of outdated info - but really no community)
 
Yelp next best (great coverage - but too damned many hipsters and pretentious wanna be's and people practicing to be bad professional restaurant critics - plus Yelp's cloaking of "not good enough" reviews with captchas plus Yelp's noted bullying tactics toward advertisers - the last two review censorship/manipulation style tactics make Yelp reviews not real credible. Yelp's basically a cult.)
 
Chowhound (thin, uneven coverage, and useless for cities that don't get descended on like locusts - on the Great Lakes board only Minneapolis, Chicago and Detroit seem to exist. I go to Chowhound mainly to read media and home recipe reviews.)

Glad to chime in. I finally figured out foodie for myself by writing that. It's kind of a nonsense word, really.

Actually on Chowhound Minneapolis and Chicago now have their own separate boards from the Great Lakes. Detroit doesn't.

What would be useful to me would be like a LexisNexis of menus  (Menu Venue?)  along with other info on the restaurants (like mom&pop, local food, organic, gluten free, etc)
