The Marketing Power of a Name - 2 Buck Chuck!

Trader Joe's and Charles Shaw Wines have just celebrated their 10 year anniversary together. In that time, Traders Joe's has sold 600 MILLION! Bottles of 2 Buck Chuck!!! That's right---600 MILLION BOTTLES of cheap wine. No one knows for sure who coined the name 2 Buck Chuck, but it stuck and helped create a marketing coup that goes into the Annals of Marketing Lore!

I still have the label from a bottle of wine I bought a few years ago that was actually named Two Buck Chuck, it has a picture on the label showing two male deer and a woodchuck. I've never seen it since.

JRPfeff Crikey Jim. When did you grow the goatee? I've been under the radar the last month having back surgery and DID in fact let my beard grow, so you're very perceptive. However, I had to shave it off Wednesday in order to gain re-entry into the Casa de Foodbme! How's your world turning these days? PM or email me if you like.

A friend gave me a case of the wine for Christmas and It was better than many wines that I have paid five times that for. Trader Joe's can't sell it in Tennessee because of some of the liquor laws. I think that is about to change. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

Two Buck Chuck became the gift of choice of many of my sales reps when I had the store. I really preferred the $14 Box See's. I've been to a few get-togethers where cases of Trader Joe's wine could be seen carried in to the gathering and then put on the tables. It's just so easy.
