It beat out the ghost pepper. I like heat, but this might be out of my league

I was at the bar at House of Blues in Orlando and got to chatting with the bartenders to hear stores about the moron customers they encounter and how they (the customers) deal with the habeneros that come in the jambalaya (with an expressed warning about the potency).

My favorites were the ones about the macho guys who tear the peppers apart with their fingers and eat them to impress their dates.  A couple of those guys wound up getting to meet the paramedics.

But my real favorite story was the guy who did that, washed it down with a few beers, survived, headed into the boys room to do what guys do after a few beers ... didn't wash his "peppery" fingers ... and found a part of himself that didn't tolerate the peppers as well as his stomach had ... he came out in agony (I seem to recall he met the paramedics too) ...

"You want us to pour milk on what !!! ???"

No word on how the date ended.  I suspect nothing more than a goodnight kiss.

I raise bell and jalapeno peppers every year.  I couple of years ago I got brave and raised some Thai peppers.  They grew into a huge bush with thousands of those pretty small finger size red peppers.  I had no idea how hot they were and I am sure they were no where near as hot as described sabove although they were much hotter than the habaneros I had raised before.  I put one of the small peppers in a chili I made a few weeks ago and it was way too much.

I enjoy jalapeno's and I enjoyed them pickled and raw several times a week but I am certainly no glutton for intense heat pain.

Those Thai peppers are hot. I have bitten into a few now and then and always regret it immediately

        Wheregregeats...great stories. Cracked me up.

As for these ridiculously hot peppers I will quote Ralph from the Simpsons, "tastes like burning."

I made a batch of sauce the other day for my local lions club's chili dinner.

          it contained

          carrots
          3 habs
          8 jal
          3 ghost
          titch of vinegar
and about 2 tsp of 5 million scoville units pepper extract

pureed it all up and YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

I'm willing to bet his post-digestion visit to the restroom wasn't all that hot, either.

He might not have been a ScreamingChicken, but I bet he was screaming something!

I love hot food, but I can never for the life of me figure out these clowns who attempt this type of thing.

I can drink tabasco sauce out of the bottle, but would literally not even touch a habenero. I don't even have habenero sauce in my refrigerator; I use Dinosaur Barbecue's Devil's Duo hot sauce, with the habs cut buy cayenne pepper.

After a year of curiosity I finally got some ghost peppers from a friend who bought them in a market in Toronto last week. The vendor wanted $150/lb, claiming they are illegal in Canada, but I call BS on that.

Anyway I went round to get my half of the peppers (5 each) and I've got to say I was very disappointed.  We waded slowly into the waters with a tiny piece. The heat hit immediately, but was more euphoric than painful. About two beer later I got cocky and ate a whole pepper.

All I can guess is they were a bad/premature batch, because I've had habaneros and even thai chilis that were way hotter than this ghost.

In all it was a fun, if disappointing experiment. Next stop: infinty and scorpion peppers!!!

When I was doing movie catering, there was a bunch of lighting guys I worked with all the time, they liked egg white, veggie & habanero burritos in the morning..... 4-5 habaneros...plus habanero hot sauce.......
One morning we heard the boss on the radio telling one of his guys to go to the caterer, get some popsicles and bring them to the honey wagon

I like really spicy stuff, but just the mouth burning chiles, not the ones that get your throat. I CAN do habaneros, but that's too much for me for everyday stuff.I tried a bhut jolokia wing challenge and lost decidedly. Only did 3 of 6 before they got me.

Can anyone suggest a somewhat easy to get hot chile that is mostly mouth burn? Subbing serranos for jalapeƱos is the best I've done so far.
