Do you use one or the other for telling customers where your truck will be?

Just use both. All you have to do is link them. You can have tweets go to Facebook using an app like "My Tweets". But you can't post to Facebook and have Twitter pick it up.
So start with Twitter. It's geared more for what you want to do anyways.
You can also use a client like Hootsuite or Tweetdeck and post to multiple networks
