Twinwillow As it happens, Tony Bourdain just filmed an episode for "No Reservations" today at Franklin's BBQ. http://sidedish.dmagazine...ghn-filming-in-austin/ That is most excellent. I really enjoy Bourdain and his "work" which carries with it more than a whiff of the late, great Hunter S. Thompson.

scrumptiouschef kaszeta scrumptiouschef That's a damn good looking website Which one? http://offbeateats.org/2011/04/franklin-barbecue/ Thanks. I was wondering if you were commenting on my site, I did a massive re-work on it last year, and have been relatively happy with the results. The Franklin page is one of my most-viewed. Especially around SXSW this year.

My FAVORITE Central TX BBQ stop. Been there 3 times so far and think about it almost every day. Other great ones that are right there in Austin are J. Muellers (outdoor serving from a trailer) and Stiles Switch (new place very near J. Muellers that opened a few months ago). Post #27 and #35 in this thread have my impressions from the first 2 visits. http://www.roadfood.com/Forums/Texas-BBQ-Road-Trip-in-October-m667712.aspx

stillcajun I was there during Texas/OU this past October. Ordered 2 lbs of each of brisket, sausage and ribs. Sausage had a good snap to the casing and was juicy. Definitely not the commercial stuff. Really good. I thought the ribs were good not outstanding but pretty solid which is better than what you get from most joints. The brisket, however, was on a whole different level. That's some divine stuff there. I still say there's more than salt and pepper in the rub on the brisket. Actually, the sausage at Franklin IS the commercial stuff, it's made by Texas Sausage Company, here's a pic of the man who makes that sausage, it's damn fine but cannot be compared to the handmade version that John Mueller makes from scratch http://www.scrumptiousche...ay-September-20th-2010 sorry for the repeat, Sunday morning coming down.
