it's an abandoned gas station on I-80 somewhere between NV and UT which means "nowhere" and who could remember a place as such?

The Clue is "Outer' which could mean the outer boroughs of NYC.
Even got the magnifying glass out to try to read the menu above the bar! All I could make out was Chicken, Hot Dogs & Ham Salad & Tuna. Glass mustard & horseradish jars on the table with lids & plastic spoons in them. Definitely a sandwich joint.
The menu on the table has a red cover!

Post #9...?  your late to the party Jimmy,  that was already correctly guesses by MetroplexJim as Rutt's in NJ
We are now on Post #35 where no one other then Michael Hoffman is old enough to recognize this 200 year old building as a restaurant .

I read that far and responded only then to find the rest of the thread. Let me Guess-----Rutts Hut!

You win anything on the top shelf. Except the Sambuca.

You might recall Kevin Costner exploring this "Where am I?" in the movie The Postman.
To say I was confused when I found this place in the middle of nowhere all shut down, dilapidated ... and like I said, in the middle of nowhere, would be a waaay understatement.
After asking around, I was told that the movie crews painted (in faded hues) the EAT and prices to reflect a post-apocalyptic relic.
I doubt any RF'rs ever broke bread here:
(I know, it was a trick question.  Sorry.  Still one of my favorite shots.  My FB cover shot actually.)
Anyhow.  I'm out here this week.  Any RF'rs want to meet me out here, I'll supply the jerky.)
