I can certainly understand why bars "give away" salty snacks:  it sells more beer.  Why restaurants do it is beyond me.

The bottom line here is that it is easy to salt under-salted food.  It is impossible to make over-salted food palatable.

While I believe that Mayor Bloomberg's salt-police approach is Upper West Side silliness, I do believe in the "old school" approach:  1)  complain (andif that fails) 2) don't patronize.

Not surprised, although I've not eaten much fast food outside the US (why, with the far better quality typically outside the US in non fast-food places).

I find McDonald burgers to be about the worst - I taste nothing but salt with them.  I find them so salty, all I get now is their fish sandwich the few times/ year I stop there.

Haven't had chain pizza in some 20+ years, so can't say much about Pizza Hut, etc, but I do find the local pizzerias do tend to over do the salt.

Guess it's evidently formulated that way for the average american pallet - add enough salt, sugar & fat and the masses will follow.  If there's not enough salt / sugar, they can always add ketchup.  Then wash it all down with a 32 oz Coke to kill the after taste.

I happen to like salt because it brings out the flavors of food. However, not long ago I had a hamburger at a Texas Roadhouse that I just could not eat because it was so very, very salty. It was a shame, too, because it was one of the beefiest tasting burgers I'd had in quite a while -- perhaps since last June when I had a green chile cheeseburger at the Bobcat Bite outside Santa Fe. (Now that was one fantastic ten-ounce patty of cooked-to-perfection [USDA] Choice beef.)

I think a lot of the salt is already in the food not added by the restaurant. I guess french fries are an exception as I've seen them put ridiculous amounts of salt on fries at Mcdonalds.

Are you suggesting that the FF restaurants in other countries take salt OUT of the food that had it in in the first place ???

Mr. Hoffman and I agree about Texas Roadhouse:  it is a salt-fest!  Again, it's easy to add salt if needed, but impossible to remove it.
