NYC?!!

I'm on a trip here until next week.. would like a few suggestions in the cuban/mexican/asian genres.  

Uptown, downtown, outer boroughs, it's a big city.  Asian, I'd start with serious eats NY

I'm here all week without a hell of a lot to do.. Been kicking around midtown but having a destination gives me a reason to explore a new part of the city.  Hitting up Grimaldi's so that will take me out of Manhattan.  Probably even going to head out to the Hamptons with the rest of NYC.

Well, you can go to one of the comidas chinas y criollas places on the upper West Side; my favorite (which throws in some Peruvian into the mix) is Flor de Mayo.

Skip Grimaldi's unless you like tourist traps. If you really want to bad, go over to the Grimaldi's in Hoboken, no line, and walk along the Hudson River Park for wonderful views of Manhattan, esp. at sunset.
 
BUT, how can you possibly have nothing to do? If that's really the case, try some food carts, try a high-end lunch (Per se, Le bernadin, Bouley, etc.). Fun Mexican = Rosa Mexicano.

Best Cuban Sandwich honors in Manhattan usually goes to Margon.  I'd agree.

Note that they are closed Sundays and I'm not sure about Memorial Day.

If you end up going to <<<Hoboken>>> (yay!!!) the Hudson-Bergen light rail (in the same terminal as the Path train) will take you to Union City in 5 minutes...

Depends on how much u r looking to spend. Nice restaurants to check out are Sakagura, buddakan and Cuba.

Good food for cheaper prices are La Dinastia (Cuban/Chinese restaurant). Nothing to look at but great food. I suggest the fried chicken with pork fried rice. There is also the Cowgirl Seahorse and Tortilla Flats (might be the best margarita in nyc).

A great truck to check out is Korilla bbq. Google it to find out where it is parked. It is Korean bbq burritos and tacos. Worth the long wait. Enjoy and give us a report!

@NYNM.. I should clarify on the "nothing to do"  I have very little "planned" and prefer to explore without a set adgenda.  I'm out here on a food/business trip.. doing some research for a friend/business partner so I'm just gonna see where it takes me.

There's no soda ban.  It's just something that the Mayor has proposed.  

One of the truly unique things about The City is that it is really hard to find "bad food" there.  Just avoid the tourist traps (especially Times Square) and franchises and it's really hard to go wrong with any establishment that has been open for more than a year. 
 
So my advice is to read client-based reviews (here, Zagat, Urbanspoon, etc)  and have half your dining experiences at the places that appeal to you based on such information.  The other half:  pick a neighborhood that interest you and "go random".

Lots of good Japanese in midtown.  I especially like Sushi Yasuda and Yakitori Totto.  A bit further afield, Ippudo Ramen is also excellent.
