I was in Monterey, CA a few years ago for the aquarium, seafood and birding. While returning back to San Fran, I decided to travel back a different route since I had driven down the coast earlier. I just happened to travel through Gilroy, CA during their festival. I had to stop. Everything garlic was available including garlic ice cream which I tried but I did not care for it. If you like garlic and I do, you would enjoy the event. I had enough garlic that day to last me for some time. Oddly, their other famous crop is strawberries which they are growing adjacent to the garlic. Seems like there would be some flavor transfer. We just harvested our garlic a few days ago and got about two bushel. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

Sundancer, I'm wondering if ramps might be close in flavor to garlic? I've not had ramps but maybe you have.

carlton pierre Sundancer, I'm wondering if ramps might be close in flavor to garlic? I've not had ramps but maybe you have. I have been to the ramp festival in Cosby, TN several years ago. I have never had them raw but cooked with scrambled eggs. They have a taste similar to garlic and onions and now somewhat of a protected plant in several states and national parks including the Smoky Mtn National park. The Cosby Ramp festival is the largest in the USA and there are many. I am not sure if they are commercially grown? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allium_tricoccum Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN
