When/where is the next eating tour?

I know there have been lots of suggestions, but I haven't heard of any tours yet this year.  Anything in the works?  New England, New York, North Carolina, or Memphis all sound like winners to me.

I've been pushing for Kansas City for a couple of years now since it is my home. Last years thread had the main choices of the readers down to Chicago/Milwaukee (which won), Kansas City, Memphis, and Portland, OR. I the past they have generally announced by mid July. I think that they try to choose a different region from where they went the year before. My money is on Portland or Seattle.

Great topic!  I was thinking about starting a similar thread, too!

If I had to choose one place, it would be Charleston, SC.  What a fantastic city for Roadfood!  Kansas City and Memphis would also be excellent candidates.

CNW, the one time that they went west (New Mexico), it was not very well attended.  I am guessing that they will continue to have them in Eastern or Central time zones.

I second bb's vote for Charleston and would suggest any trip to Charleston include a stop at The Wreck.

Gosh, I hope that won't be the case! I believe (I know it was the case for me and my friends) the NM tour was announced rather late in the summer and we already had other commitments for that autumn timeframe. I would have loved to attend that one, and I'd feel very sad (and a little bit discriminated against, airfare-wise) if all future tours are east of the Rockies. There's some good eatin' out here in the wild west.

    There's not even a self-guided listing for NYC. I mean...come on.

Amen to that.  The NM trip was a lot of fun and different.  I could go for KC, too, as that is near where I live.  I was in Memphis last weekend and saw a lot of good things we could do there, just on Beale Street, but lots of other places, too.  (DeVall's Bluff, with three stops, isn't too far away for the requisite bus trip).  St. Louis has a number of good stops, too.  Someday we have to look at Los Angeles or San Francisco.  But if it were up to me, I would vote for New England.  I haven't been there since 1979, so I would love to return.

Strangely enough, Michael and I were talking about this two days ago.  The next Roadfood Eating tour will be September 29-30 and feature the Sterns hometown eats in CT.  It will be an unforgettable weekend, and more details will be posted soon.

Excellent!  Connecticut has a great variety of food.  Looking forward to some of the best hot dogs, ice cream, hamburgers, fried clams, lobster rolls.....

Since it won't be in NYC or NJ (ha ha ha) maybe as a consolation prize we can soon see some self-guided tours listed for this area. Maybe hot dogs....sliders...diners...bakeries...delis.

Heck of a note. lleechef and I will be on a boar hunting trip with the Mayor and Janet a couple of weeks previous to the Connecticut tour, and we'd planned to continue to Oklahoma to visit my son following that. Still, we just might be able to make it. As a Nutmegger I can never get enough of Connecticut.

Since this is our stomping grounds, and we have searched out many of the Stern's CT postings, I expect the weekend would bring many repeats for us. That being said, you can NEVER have too much Pepe's, or Blackie's, or Harry's! Looking forward more details!

Sounds awesome!  I hope you can shoehorn in a stop at Dottie's for those amazing chicken pies and donuts!!
TnT, where/what is Harry's?  I wholeheartedly agree with you on Pepe's and love that pepper relish at Blackie's.
CC, there are quite a few threads about tours in NYC that you might find helpful.  I think the trick is to take the parts of those local trip reports and cobble together a tour full of all the things that are the most interesting to you.  I was going to include links to some of my NYC reports but my computer here at work won't let me for some reason.  If you need any advice on putting something together for NYC, just shoot me a PM, I'd be glad to help!

It's just a little strange not to see anything listed from Roadfood regarding self-guided tours for NYC and NJ other than the Pizza tour when this area is so rich and proud in regard to the traditional offerings of Roadfood. Maybe it would inspire more locals to participate on this site. There are millions.

There's plenty in the Roadfood database and I really hope to see something soon. It really was like hitting the lottery happy days when I saw <<<Hoboken>>> listed on the front page.

You really have done a terrific job through the years to showcase the Roadfood of this area....as a local enjoying Roadfood locally.

Billyboy - Harry's is a terrific seasonal drive-in/walk-up roadside joint in Colchester. Amazing grilled burgers and dogs, ice cream, etc. We are big fans and although it's about a 45 minute drive, we try to go 3-4x a season for a fix. Chances are we may not get there on the tour since it's a bit off the beaten path, but it's totally worth a stop or a detour if time allows. Tons of reviews here on the site - http://www.roadfood.com/R...iew/672/harrys-drivein
