I've met a number of people over the years who didn't know that Andy Griffith was a gifted comedian (not just an actor) and writer. For proof of that check out this You-Tube version of his What It Was Was Football standup routine. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNxLxTZHKM8

MH: You are correct as I recall "No time for Sargents".
I don't particularly get into religious music but I bought "I Love to tell the story" back in 1996. I still have it around the house someplace. Beautiful music.

No, WJ, it wasn't an early version of reality TV. ( There was no such thing!) It was real TV; real people doing real things that everyone else could relate to. The characters on the show (and other similar shows) were like your next-door neighbors or good friends (or people you would want as next-door neighbors or good friends). It was funny at times, and sad at other times, just like real life, but never crude, lewd or rude (which reality TV seems to like to specialize in).

I always loved The Andy Griffith Show. Aunt Bea, Goober, Barney Fife, Floyd the barber and Otis the drunk among many others. Hard to believe that little Opie turned out to be Ron Howard, director and creator of many films.

Andy Griffith was a gifted actor(A Face In the Crowd), comedian(What it was was football) and a cagey judge of what was funny(It was he who decided to be straight man and let Don Knotts and others do the jokes on his show). He was a talented man and it was always a pleasure to watch him on Matlock or Andy griffith. I could not overstate my admiration for his talent. I will miss him.

Ummmm..... I know that You took me way too literally. I was just showing how times have changed. I keep forgetting that sarcasm doesn't exist outside of where I grew up (The NYC area)

Loved The Andy Griffith show and some of his early stand up comedy routines. I've stayed in Manteo, NC plenbty of times where Andy lived and I love that town a lot. RIP Andy Griffith
