Does anyone remember Big John's baked beans with the can of fixins on the top? I loved those and I am not a baked bean fanatic. When did they stop making them?

I do remember and bought them a few times but don't remember them being outstanding - I don't think they were on the market for long. LaChoy canned products with the separate can on top have been around for a long time - and although I haven't purchased them in ages I still see them in the Chinese section and wonder who buys them?

My mom used to buy them too. It got me researching it, and found this copycat recipe that might help: Big John's Beans and Fixing 1 can (16 oz. ) Cambell's pork and beans 1/2 cup Manwich or Heintz brand sloppy-joe mix 11/2 TBS Hormel real bacon bits 1/2 TBS. sugar 1/1/2 TBS. molasses 1 tsp. minced onion 1/8 tsp. salt 1/8 tsp. dry mustard 1/8 tsp. white vinegar dash of pepper Combine the above ingredients, cover, and refrigerate at least 30 minutes. Empty can of beans in a saucepan, stir in the pre-made Fixins and heat over low-medium heat stirring occasionally, serve when heated through.

At my house, we used the Big John's to make my son's favorite food: hamburger and beans. Brown a pound of ground beef, stir in beans and fixings and heat. It really was good. I haven't seen them in a long time.
