Making Coffee From The Kentucky Coffee Tree

Growing up in Kentucky I always found it odd that our official state tree was the Kentucky Coffee Tree. I figured we were too far north to have coffee trees and the pods that fell off them didn't look like anything that could be converted into a beverage. I was wrong. Apparently old timers, in hard times, took the seeds/beans/berries and toasted them to brew into coffee. Has anyone ever tried coffee brewed from one of these trees?
