I suspect just a couple of sales per year could do the trick. All them furrin' words on the awning probably mean $$$.

Westwood Boulevard across from Junior's Delicatessen. (I was at Junior's) Just north of Pico Boulevard so not in any go to area. Does anyone here know anyone who plays the harp?

I know a couple of people who play the harp, but then I tend to work with symphonies fairly often. A good harp runs in the thousands of dollars, plus maintenance and accessories, so I would imagine while they don't get a lot of walk-in traffic what sales they do make are pretty huge.

Hot Boiled P-Nuts. I love the things, but always wondered how those roadside stands with the hand-painted signs stay in business when I rarely see anyone stopped at them. I suspect some stands also sell some higher margin products besides peanuts. Could a harp retailer have a similar business model?

My next door neighbor who is a dentist has a duaghter that plays the harp. I did not ask the price of the harp but I understood it was close to $10,000. She has played at our church and she was very very good. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

(Should of asked) $10,000?! Guess they only need to sell a few out the front door. I'm wondering what they sell out the back door. I don't understand Pumpkin beer.

I never understood pumpkin beer, either, until I had one! Not that I would want it all the time, but it was nice for a change of pace.

Virtually any symphony or even studio quality instrument will run into the thousands of dollars. Although I have an exception; my Irish whistle. While you can get a cheap knock-off for about $6, a real, concert quality level one will set you back more like $12. Bart

DawnT What ever happened to the ones you put in your mouth and struck the little springy thing? Scale of economy that someone must have figured out many thousands of years ago. I used to have one of those, a "jaw harp" or "Jew's harp". You can still find them around, usually in music stores right next to the nose flutes.

My mother actually bought a harp once and donated it to the church in my father's memory. How much it gets used, I have no idea.

I read once, someplace, that there is no such thing as an ancient harp - that is, one that is playable. It seems the strings put tremendous pressure on the frame, the frame fails and is not repairable. Thus the continuing market for new harps. Cheers, John

My BFF since we were 8 years old plays the harp. She is a music teacher for Milwaukee Public Schools. I don't get why someone calls my work number to say they're not going to answer the request we sent. I'm not sure what they expect me to do? Cry? Calling to say you're not going to answer is still an answer--We call it "Refused to respond."
