DTRAngel: Yelp is an interesting source of info, for sure, but it doesn't always accurately reflect quality--only the opinions of our demographic. Clearly this type of sandwich is not well understood by everyone nor appreciated universally. I went there about a week ago and liked it, but didn't love it. I much preferred Johnnie's Italian Beef in Elmwood Park, IL. I really liked Al's Maxwell Street Polish with fries, though. Looks good, but if I went there I'd be after those Italian deli meats, instead. Nice to know about that place!

DT, I doesn't sound like you had a true Chicago Italian beef. I don't know what pureed beef and oil is. Any beef from anywhere I know in Chicago is sliced and dipped in au jus. Yes, it can be messy but you can ask for dipped or not.
