Boasting... My niece just received her acceptance notice from Boston University! Now I have to find her inexpensive places to eat and snow clothes. Beaming.

Good Luck on the first one...and any of the Malibu Ski-Shoppe's should stock real winter clothing...but then there is always Land's End online (Or Bass Pro Shop !!) BU is a fine school that's for sure.

I'm a big fan of LL Bean for winter clothes...I figure they're in Maine, they get it. Congratulations to your niece!

Congratulations, Boston is a great place to go to college. The head of the Charles regatta, the bean pot, winter on the Boston Common. I didn't go but my daughter did (BC class of 95). I think I enjoyed her 4 years more than I enjoyed my own (4 years as a commuter to a LI school). I have a strong suspicion that Durgin Park was partially an influence on her decision. I didn't mind, I enjoy going there too.

Congradulations to your neice! I prefer Land's End and their winter outer wear. I have this coat. I bought when I worked at a college that had far flung buildings I had to visit in any weather as an IT Tech. It has many pockets, some hidden and it's long coat and covers your butt. Great hood too. We had a week of 20 below wind chill and I was warm as toast. http://www.landsend.com/pp/womens-down-commuter-long-coat~243895_59.html

I did my undergrad work at Salem State on the North Shore, Two of those Five years were spent as a Legislative Intern in the State House in Boston. I am still impressed with how much of the nation's education progress comes out of that city (and the surrounding area)

Yes, my lacrosse playing niece. She was accepted at Indiana in the journalism department but was waiting for Boston U. I never heard of this before but she had a binding contract with BU.... if accepted, she had to go there. Thank you all for the suggestions. She's going to hate the cold.

MAR Congrats to you both, I know you are very proud. My sister went to BC and her 1st husband was also a Salem State alum. The city offers TONS of great places to eat around the the city and BU.

Congratulations to your niece! You should be very proud, as they have only about a 45% acceptance rate.

She's a smarty! She wants to go in to Sports Marketing... whatever that is. Or maybe she said marketing with an emphasis on sports. Is there a difference?

mar52 Is there a difference? Yes. Sports marketing involves advertising and promotion of sporting events, sports organizations and athletes themselves (think endorsements). Marketing with an emphasis on sports is definitely not the same. In fact, while there are sports marketing majors I'm pretty sure that's not the case for emphasis on sports.
