The 2004 James Beard Foundation has announced their mominees for their annual awards. I am thrilled to see that Jane and Michael Stern were nominated for best in The Magazine series for the following in Gourmet magazine: “Crab Cakes Be Damned, Give Us Stuffed Ham”, “Nuts for the Northwest”, “Burritos, Rellenos, and Tamales--Oh MY!” 4,7,8/03 I am hoping that they win in their catagory and wish them the best in all their future writings.

Thanks, y'all. Alas, you cannot vote. It's a panel of judges that decides who gets the award, and needless to say, their names are a deep, dark secret. Otherwise, I'd post their home addresses here and lead torch-carrying mobs to their front door to help convince them that Roadfood rules .

The nominated articles were among my favorites of the year, Michael and Jane. I especially liked "Burritos, Rellenos, and Tamales-Oh MY!"

I agree with my Jane-those articles were among the best of the series this past year.

I wouldn't be the person I am today if it weren't for the Sterns. I hope they win the award. They deserve it. Good luck, Jane and Michael!

I am so glad they have recognized the two of you!!! Usually the JB Awards don't slum at Roadfood places. It's great that they are acknowledging that Roadfood is as gourmet as some "4-star" establishments. But better yet, they are pointing out what great writers you guys are. Forget the food. Reading the Sterns' stuff is almost as good as being there. You take a trip with them everytime you read an article or review. Cheers, Jane and Michael!! Good luck!! PS: I just checked out your comepetition (http://www.jamesbeard.org/about/press/newsdetails.php?news_id=37). I think you are a shoe-in!!

Can we threaten to cancel our subscriptions to Gourmet if you don't win?

Congratulations on the nomination. That, alone, is one huge honor.

Threatening to cancel your subscription to Gourmet over us is always a good idea , however the editors at Gourmet want us to win as much as anybody does. It's good for them if we do. They have no control (that I'm aware of!) over the outcome.

Shhhhhhh, Michael!!! Gourmet would never want the public to think they had no influence over food and beverage appreciation here in the U.S.
