Selling Hotdogs in a Mall

Has anyone thought of actually putting a store in a mall food court? Hotdogs used to be a hot item in a mall environment many years ago. I was thinking with the new surge in Hotdogs, it may be a cool place to add one. Thoughts? Suggestions? Comments?

it's hard to say, a snack bar or restaurant will cost you a lot more then a cart or trailor. here in vegas Nathans is in a lot of malls and food courts. and they charge almost 10.00 for a dog fries and drink.

The thought of having to sell 1000 hot dogs or more just to pay the rent, before I pay my food cost and other expenses and then make a profit scares the willies out of me. You're gonna hire help to be at the mall from maybe 8 or 9 AM to set up and serve until 6 or 7 PM and be there until 8 or 9 PM to clean up and make it selling hot dogs chips and soda and compete with the other 50 or so eats in the cafe court in the Mall? Here in our Mall I see businesses come and go in less than a year sometimes. Man just talking about this terrifies me.

I think it depends on sooo many variables. How busy is the mall being the main one...just to say it's good or not to be in a mall is really tough without knowing all of those variables. I will say this....once you take the selling of hot dogs off of the street and into a brick and mortar location, you take a lot of the "uniqueness" out of it. Street meat is special...people buy an experience. If you sell in a mall you better up that experience tenfold...the food must be incredible too.
