How do you justify excluding Kansas City from this poll?

One could argue that KC's BBQ greatness really is transplanted Texas (where Arthur Bryant was from). Of course, I wouldn't argue that, having also omitted from the poll Chicago, St. Louis, and Atlanta, not to mention all of Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Alabama.

Are you limited to x selections in any given poll, where x must always be a certain set number?

                Thanks, Pogo.

And I agree that Kansas City is up there among the elite. With Arthur Bryant's (although not as good as it once was), Snead's (in the suburb of Belton), all of the Gates fast food BBQ outlets, K C Masterpiece and my new favorite, Jack's Stack, there aren't many places that can boast such availability of good Q.

Of course, I would still put my check by North Carolina. I just developed the taste for it (especialy the Lexington style) during the 58 years I lived there. But I sure won't pass up good Kansas City, Memphis or Texas Q. The Georgia and South Carolina sauces overwhelm the great meat taste, while the others complement it.

The Sundancer has enjoyed Q in all those places. One note of interest is that the area that surrounds Memphis for many miles add to the value of the quality of BBQ around Memphis. For instance, Lexington, TN and the entire county plus other adjoining counties seems devoted to BBQ and so do many of the other counties that surround Memphis. Perhaps Memphis's good fortune to be famous for BBQ is due to the support it gets from many surround counties not only in Tennessee but Arkansas and Mississippi.

Incidentally the sauce served at Hays Smokehouse is among the best I have ever had. Mr. Hays claims no knowledge of its recipe and gives all the credit of the secret sauce to his wife. Great Couple.

Yesss! Tipton County: Little Porky's, Fitzhugh's, Bozo's (sadly declining); Haywood, Curly & Lynn's. Even Obion County, almost in Kentucky, boasts Nina's. Thanks for the memories, Paul.
