First Event Thu, 05/23/13 7:51 PM (permalink)
This past Sunday I had my first ever event/vending experience on my cart. It was for my daughters 2nd birthday. I served about 30 dogs and a vegan dog. I felt pretty comfortable once I got rolling so it wasn't too bad. Reminded me of my high school days of working in a nursing home kitchen and serving slop out of steam tables. ha.
My pulled pork dog (the  Pig Pile) was a huge hit. It's a dog topped with pickles, bbq pulled pork and onion crunch. Its mostly what the adults wanted. Kids went plain or a mac n cheese topped hot dog. Only  served 3 chili cheese dogs.
All in all I think it was a great way to break the ice. My cash cow with a double steamer from bens carts ran great and I was able to fix a small water leak I noticed at the same time. Now I can't wait to get out there and actually make some cash!

What kind of pre-packaged pulled pork do you use? Is it these? or do you make it yourself? Post pics, would be good to see. ;)

Also, congrats on your first day.

My health inspector and I are under the agreement that I will only sell pre cooked/packaged stuff. This enabled me to get out of taking a servsafe course. With that being said I'm currently using Sweet Baby Rays. It seemed to be the only one that wasn't overly processed. I haven't tried the Sam's Club yet but will probably scope it out.

I'll second that. I was very surprised.

Costco has a very good pp.

No Costco here. My choices are Sam's and BJ's. I like the flavor and consistency of the Sweet Baby Ray's but from a price standpoint I should probably give Sam's a try
