OK, who has the best pistachio ice cream? The best I ever had was in a Chinese restaurant in New York City and it had red cherry halves folded into it. - Rusty

Kopp's in Milwaukee. They load down the pistachio custard with roasted pistachio nuts (and I do mean load down). But they are generous with the nuts on any of their nut based custards (butter pecan, macadamia, etc.). Carvel's on 2nd ave between 23rd and 24th in NYC is pretty good, but not close to Kopp's.

Ben and Jerry's Pistachio is the only ice cream I buy from the supermarket. Just full of whole nutmeats.

Haagen-Dazs pistachio is also pretty fab.

I can remember growing up that Howard Johnson's had the best pistachio ice cream (in fact, all their ice creams were better most of what was available at that time). In the 50's and 60's,pistachio was an exotic alternative to v, c & s. Now, even though there is so much to choose from, I think it's been eclipsed somewhat adn I never see it sold in big containers.
