How to build a portable 3 compartment sink Wed, 06/19/13 3:24 PM (permalink)
Hi, i'm interested in making a 3 compartment sink capable of being used at fairs, festivals, and farmer's markets in los angeles. I have found a few 3 compartment concession sink frames, but I was wondering if any of you had any guidance or knew of any websites that have the necessary parts that I need to carry out the actual construction of the sink. It needs to have a 30 gallon container for fresh water, 45 gallon for grey water, a water heater, and another seperate sink for hand washing. I am just not sure upon actual configuration of the sink including pumps, hoses, pipes, and faucets and such. I was hoping one of you may have experience and are able to assist. Thanks!

How are you planning on carrying all that water around?
What are you selling? What are you working out of?

I am going to be selling grilled chicken wings, corn, and potatoes. It will be out of a tent set up with a grill, tables, and the sink. Due to the health department standards we need all of that water for the sink that we use. There will be stations to fill up the water at the events, but they all have to be able to fit underneath the frame that I found and so far it seems that they will be able to fit. I just need to know how to go about all the hose configuration and such

For the setup you are describing, take a look at laundry/utility sinks from Lowes or Homedepot. The fiberglass ones.      light weight and easy to move.   ...  You may need to put a piece of plywood under the legs to keep the sink from punching into the ground.

Anyway, a double sink is about $75 and a single sink is about $40.    ... I haven't seen a triple, but might be ordered.

Add a water tank and sureflow pump ...

Yeah the only issue is that I need to have a 3 compartment sink with the water containers being able to fit underneath it . IN addition to that i need a hand wash station that can be attached to it or seperate

Not sure what your budget is but there are some prebuilt units floating around.  They might be a bit easier to do or could give you a great idea as where to start

Put a double and a single end to end .... 3 compartments ... Technically, a hand sink attached to the 3 compartment is not allowed because of splashing.   Usually, the HD requires the hand sink to be separated and located at a distance.

I don't think you would be washing dishes to sever the public with; use paper or plastic for them.   The only washing would be for cooking and serving utensils.   Talk to your HD, I think they may allow you to use small plastic tubs. You shouldn't need more than about 10 gal of water for the day so 2 or 3  ... 5 gal buckets of water should be plenty.

you don't really need to buy plans... If you can reverse engineer it from the picture, you're good.   That's what I would do... You gotta be nutz to pay that kinda money for those sinks

Ya you don't have to buy there stuff but the measurement is the nice part.then buy your own stuff like steam pans and have them brazed and drilled or get some off ebay.

If its something you want to actually use, versus have as a kind of token setup, I would recommend getting a small stainless steel sink, 3 bin. Check webstaurantstore.com and look for the cheapest 3 bin sink. Then you wanna get a shurflo rv 12v water pump, cheapest on amazon. Alternatively. You can go 120 AC if you are certain you will have power at your events. Instant tankless water heaters available on eBay. Brand names to look for are Marey or ecotemp. Propane models (unless you have power available).
I've gotten large water tanks off eBay. Beware of some sellers charging too much for shipping. There is one vendor, I think out of Indiana that has good prices.

If you wanna go cheap, you could always set up dish totes and rig up some kind of water heating and fill setup, but it sounds like your local HD wants something more legit.
