Route 70 KC to Denver

Making the trip NYC to Denver and we've pretty much know where we're going to stop thru KC but west of KC is a head scratcher. Anyone with any recommendations?  This trip will have only a little of slack time; we're on a schedule.

Thank you for the help.  Looking forward to the trip very much but it's going to be a whirlwind.  Don't want to waste any time on bad or chain food.

If you like breakfast burritos, stop at the little Mexican place in Burlington, CO (just over the border from KS) next to a gas station. It's just off I-70, an easy stop. I had one of the best breakfast burritos in my life there. Fresh hand-stretched tortilla, loaded with piping-hot eggs and bacon (and more), not just potato-cheese glop. Sorry I can't remember the name of the place, but I bet you can find it pretty easily. Just look off the exit--it's not in town.

A few hours west of there, Bono's serves fantastic meatball grinders. The owner moved to Golden from north of Boston, and the east-coast grinder shows its roots. YUM. To find Bono's, exit I-70 east to US 6 east, then exit US 6 almost immediately at Indiana Street. Get on the eastbound frontage road along US 6 and take the first left into a tiny shopping area. Bono's also makes other great subs, and they wrap them in that special waxed paper, just like they do in the Boston area.

Allow me to add my two cents for the Cozy Inn in Salina.  Best sliders I ever had.

Epic trip, just got back. Thanks for the tip on the Cozy Inn, that was our 'last stop' before reaching our destination Evergreen CO.

    Day one...
nondescript diner in Allentown PA for breakfast.
Primanti's take-out at my daughters house in Mt Lebo. for lunch
dinner at the Hofbrau in Newport KY, food so-so but great beer.

    Day two...
Breakfast at the Colonial Cottage Erlanger KY to try the goetta close 2nd best breakfast.
Lunch at the Moonlite in Owensboro, loved it, worth the detour.
Snack at Ted Drews in St. Louis
Dinner at Arthur Bryant's, highlight of the trip. Consensus was the sausage sandwich was the best.

    Day three...
Breakfast at R. J.'s BBQ in Mission KS, best breakfast on the trip, burnt end hash!
Lunch at the Kozy Inn, super nice people and good sliders, classic.

On the return trip, if you are going to be in the Russell/Bunker Hill area at dinner time on Thurs/Fri/Sat, you cannot beat the Bunker Hill Cafe - some of the tastiesr, juiciest, most tender steaks you will ever have. You HAVE to call ahead, as they make FRESH amazing raisin bread, and they  need to know how many loaves to make!   Rumor has it they are closing at the end of the summer (although there is nothing on their website/Facebook page to indicate this.), so this is a unique chance!
