National Ice Cream Day July 21, 2013

That's just in time for Graeter’s to debut new flavors.

The Cincinnati-based ice creamery, known for massive chocolate chips and hand-packed pints of sweet treats, will introduce four new test flavors in honor of the holiday.
Here's the lineup:
  • Salted Caramel Truffle Cup
  • Peanut Butter Chocolate Pretzel
  • Jazzberry Cinnamon Crunch
  • Aztec Chocolate
The flavors are available for home delivery while supplies last. Place your order on Graeter's company facebook page.  According to the page the pints are only available as a combined pack and must be purchased together.

Graeter's will celebrate with $1.43 single dip cones, celebrating their 143 years in business!
Blue Bunny will celebrate their 100 years in business by giving 100 ailing children their wish through Make-A-Wish Foundation.  Pretty cool!

To me, every day is NATIONAL ICE CREAM DAY !!!!!
Think about it--Have you ever had a Bad Ice Cream Day?
Some are better than others, but I've never had Bad Ice Cream.

I never had a bad ice cream day (really don't eat too much of it) but my parents did!!  Many years ago (think Dark Ages) my mother brought home French Vanilla ice cream.  She returned it because they thought those black specks were DIRT!

Well, I have one calendar that says National Ice Cream Day is today (July 19), and one that says it's tomorrow, so to be safe, I went ahead and celebrated.

I was going to celebrate it by buying (not consuming in a day) a gallon of Breyer's Real Vanilla at my local Sam's Club.  They have been carrying it for years for $7.50 - $8.50.  To my great disappointment they are now selling some brand I never heard of instead.

Checking the label, it contains a bunch of stuff Breyer's doesn't, including "Artificial Real Vanilla Flavor"!

Maybe I should try it, though.  Remembering my days back in NOVA, Giant Food's house brand Vanilla "Ice Cream" tasted more like vanilla ice cream than "real" vanilla ice cream.  As a result, it kept winning the blind taste tests the WaPo would run periodically vs. Breyer's, Haagen-Daz, etc.

Maybe "Sam" is onto something here.  And, it is two bucks cheaper!

There is some confusion as to the day that National Ice Cream Day should fall on. It should be the third Sunday in July. Some calendar makers don't realize this and put it as whatever day it was on the calendar they are using to create this year's.

Well, you can't technically have something with cream in it and have it be vegan, but you can make/have vegan frozen desserts. One option would be the frozen bananas like what you make with the Yonanas machine. Another option is a coconut ice "cream":

fanaledrinks112National Ice Cream Day is celebrated each year on the 3rd Sunday in July and is a part of National Ice Cream Month.  This day is a fun celebration enjoyed with a bowl, cup or cone filled with your favorite flavor of ice cream.
Thousands of years ago, people in the Persian Empire would put snow in a bowl, pour grape-juice concentrate over it and ate it as a treat.
