I think just about everyone has them. That one group or song that is anyone knew you liked it, they would laugh at you till the cows come home.

Me, ABBA. Cannot explain it, just always have liked them.

ABBA is okay.   Being that ABBA was one of the most successful groups of their time, you might have more people laughing with you than at you.  People wouldn't have listened to them if they thought they sucked.  Many liked 'em.  Can't argue with their success.

Now, if you had picked a one-hit-wonder. flash-in-the-pan such as "Seasons in the Sun" by Terry Jacks, you would be deservedly ridiculed!

I don't feel guilty because I like ABBA enough to have several of their CD's and a box set.

Is this a guilty music pleasure?  Paying $125.00 per to hear some sounds that your enjoy.  The Trans Siberian Orchestra came to Knoxville around Christmas time.  They preformed my favorite, "Wizard of Winter"  A really sorta Pink Floyd type of Christmas song.  Really Jumps.  I attached a video of  some folks that  decorated their house to this tune.  See if you enjoy?  I hope you do.  Let me know.

Back in July (a week after the big Ayersian wedding affair) I was back in Rhode Island. Sandra and I went to waterfire that weekend http://waterfire.org/
At the event they blast new age and world music through these amazingly large speakers which can be heard throughout the city- one of the songs we heard, Sandra really liked - we thought the language sounded Arabic or Hebrew but it certainly had a Brazilian beat to it- after doing some reasearch the following day, I found it !

Turns out the artist is a Sudanese woman who lives in Spain-hence the song is sung in Arabic.

John L. Watson and The Web. Normally, a rather dark blues band, came out with a couple of novelty songs which were MAJOR hits in Europe:

ABBA I know. Air Supply I've heard of. I recently bought a Dean Martin CD and am listening to it in my car. Jo Stafford's version of "You belong to me" is better than Dean's. But I still like the Duprees version best.

IIRC "People Who Died" was from his "Catholic Boy" album.  One of my college dormmates had a copy and we listened to PWD on occasion, including a hall party when it got booed off the turntable...

I admit to liking "Doctor's Orders" by Carol Douglas maybe just a little too much.

Most of my friends would be shocked to know of my affinity for Hank Williams, Sr.  Not much of a singer, but a helluva poet.  My particular favorite song of his is "Cold, Cold Heart".

Another peculiar taste of mine is "rock opera": the songs of Jim Steinman as sung by Celine Dion, Martloaf, and Bonnie Tyler.  In the same vein, "Drops of Jupiter" by Train.  Wow!

Buddy Holly and hank Williams Sr. are classics of their kind. I don't feel guilty about my love of them.

Speaking of rock opera's I admit to being a fan of "Queen"  Freddie Mercury who was a talented musical genius wrote some wonderful music.  He is now dead and he died of drug and sexual overdose but he was Queen.  My favorite by far of his music was "Bohemian Rhapsody"  Listen to this beautiful composed piece and you will see Mercury playing the keyboard, singing the song he wrote.  Fantastic.

Incidentally Freddie was from India, educated in England.  This song was produced in 1975, 38 years ago.

Incidentally, my music swings a lot of different ways.  I enjoy some of all different types, country, western, rock, classical, contemporary jazz and many others.  If it sounds good, I like it.
