The price of %*#@ -in BACON! Sun, 09/1/13 10:33 AM (permalink)
Since I am the only one that eats it - together with preparation being a greasy mess just to serve me 3 or 4 strips - we rarely keep bacon in the fridge.  For some reason I got up this morning in the mood for bacon so I went over to Tom Thumb (Safeway) to pick up a tomato (BLT for lunch ) and some bacon.
I got the nicest tomato I could find even though the $7/# was more than somewhat offensive.  On my way to the bacon I mused that "Wow, %$!@ - in tomatos are more than the bacon".
Even run-of the-mill bacon was $8.99/ 12 oz. - almost $12/#!!!
The thick cut, nitrite-free, applewood smoked stuff I usually buy was "on sale" @ $15+/#!!!
Yet, the United States Government tells me that inflation is 1%!  That obvious falsehood leads me to think of one of my favorite sayings:
"It's bad enough that you're pi$$ing on my shoes; just don't try and tell me that it's raining".
What's this precious delicacy going for in your 'hood?
