Here are a couple of places I have been to:
On Kauia, in Kapaa, Chicken in a barrel. web site is chickeninabarrel dot com
A super roadfood place, side of the road, bbq smoked in barrels. The chicken and ribs were both great. They have a couple picnic tables, but get your food to go, because the flies were so bothersome we could hardly enjoy. Also get your bbq sauce before you leave.
On Maui in Lahaina: Captain Jacks web site is captainjacksmaui dot com
This place is upstairs on Front street kiddy corner from the big banyon tree. If you sit at the rail you can do some great people watching. The coconut shrimp and burger sliders were great. We also ordered the wings and they gave us bbq instead of hot. Not bad, just not what we expected. We went for a happy hour, and ordered a mai tai, and they gave us the most expensive one, which was not on special. Switched to beer after that. All we had here was pupus.
Cheeseburger in Paradise web site is cheeseburerland dot com
Part of a chain, but this one is on Front street overlooking the ocean. Great views, the cheeseburgers are always decent with good fries. My wife likes the fish sandwich. You can see whales during whale season.
Smokehouse bbq web site is yelp dot com /biz/smokehouse-bbq-lahaina
This place is sort of hit or miss, but since I always go and now know the owner Joe, he always takes care of me. Baby back ribs are the way to go, he smokes them over kiawe wood. The full slab is big and meaty. He has a bbq sauce he calls dragon sauce or something you might have to ask for, it is extremely hot. This place is in a little strip mall about 3 blocks back from the ocean, by a mostly deserted shopping center where Hardrock Cafe is.
