The new bomber (interesting only to the airplane lovers on this site)
I saw a recent story about the problems in the replacement of our bomber fleet, which if I recall has about 44 active B52s and about a dozen each of the B1 and B2. The new long range bomber, to go into service in about 15 years will be very expensive, and produced in low numbers. They recently removed a kitchenette and bunk from the design as "too expensive". Missions will typically be 36 to 48 hours, but with the potential to "loiter" for weeks (with areal refueling), flying it could be a really crappy job. Maybe they need a kitchenette??
IMO rather than plan for what the crew will eat, maybe we should look at the plus and minus of even building it. If the F35 is to be our last manned fighter, do we need a manned bomber coming out 20 years later?
